Looks like the NFC south and west are the most active. The NFC north are a bunch of dodo birds.

POSTED 7:21 a.m. EST; LAST UPDATED 8:25 a.m. EST, March 9, 2007

GRANT SIGNS WITH SEAHAWKS

On the same day that defensive end Grant Wistrom was sent packing in Seattle, the Seahawks agreed to terms with safety Deon Grant.

Per John Clayton of ESPN.com, the deal is worth more than $30 million over six years. The signing bonus reportedly is in excess of the $11.1 million received by Roy Williams of the Cowboys.

Usually, the big money has begun to dry up after the first week of free agency. But because many teams have been cautious -- and possibly because the Seahawks swung and missed on Kris Dielman -- Seattle was still in a position to drop some more of that Microsoft money.

The addition of Grant means that safety Ken Hamlin most likely won't be back. And, surprisingly, Hamlin has drawn little interest in free agency, having a cup of coffee with the Saints but not much more than that.

Clayton characterizes Grant's package as the third-richest in the league at the safety position. Three others -- Chris Hope of the Titans, Adam Archuleta of the Redskins, and Michael Lewis of the 49ers -- have six-year, $30 million deals.

But as Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange pointed out last night, the premature release of Wistrom illustrates that there is a lot of potential fluff in these free-agent deals.

The key focal points are, and should be, the guaranteed money and the payout over the first three years.

After year three, there's a chance that the guy won't be around.

Just ask Wistrom.

He's young and was certainly productive in 2006.

It could be that his price is too high today.

FOR SIX TEAMS, NO NEW FREE AGENTS

Since free agency opened two weeks ago, 26 teams have signed players who spent the 2006 season with other teams.

Six teams, to date, have not signed a single free agent who played elsewhere last year.

The Bengals, Ravens, Chargers, Giants, Bears, and Panthers are the franchises who have opted thus far to stand pat. Of that group, both the Giants and the Ravens have traded for new running backs. But none of this six-pack of teams has inked a new veteran player.

Four other teams have signed only one new player.

The Colts recently inked quarterback John Navarre, a third-year player who received no free-agent tender from the Cardinals. The Packers signed cornerback Frank Walker earlier this week. The Steelers signed offensive lineman Sean Mahan over the weekend. And the Titans recently snagged cornerback Nick Harper.

The most active team to date has been the Bucs, with seven new players under contract. The Browns have signed six, and the 49ers, Raiders, and Patriots have signed five.

Signed deal:

The Packers finally got a signed contract from cornerback Frank Walker, who agreed to terms Tuesday.

"We think he's a tough guy," Thompson said. "Good special-teams player. Had a good workout for us. I think he can play."

A personnel director for an AFC team said he eliminated Walker from consideration because of his arrest in February 2005 for possession of a stolen vehicle.

One of his agents, Frank Murtha, said charges were dropped but the car was taken from Walker by authorities.

"He lost a car and a bunch of money," Thompson said. "Best I can tell, he got duped. I feel pretty good about that. All they did was take the car because it was a stolen car."

Coming out of Tuskegee in 2003, Walker took the Wonderlic intelligence test twice. His scores were 14 and 19.

Odds and ends: The Packers tried to get St. Louis wide receiver Kevin Curtis in for a visit but on Thursday he signed with Philadelphia. . . .

The Packers were one of four teams that discussed trading for fullback Terrelle Smith before Cleveland cut him Wednesday.

POSTED 5:04 p.m. EDT; UPDATED 5:14 p.m. EDT, March 15, 2007

CURTIS GETS $9.5 MILLION GUARANTEED

Various outlets are reporting, and we have separately confirmed, that the contract that receiver Kevin Curtis signed with the Eagles includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money.

Contrary to reports that the deal is worth $32 million over six years, we're told that the base number is a hair under $30 million, with $1 million salary escalators in each of the last two years of the deal that push the total value to just under $32 million. The escalators, we're told, are easily reachable -- and are based on receptions.

Curtis also received a $7 million signing bonus.

[UPDATE: We're told that the money will be paid out as a $2 million signing bonus and a $5 million roster bonus.] The remainder of the guaranteed money comes from a fully-guaranteed base salary of $1 million in 2007 and $1.5 million in guaranteed base salary in 2008. His total 2008 base salary is $2 million, and he's due to receive a $1.5 million roster bonus in March of next year.

The deal also has roster bonuses in future years and an annual Pro Bowl incentive.

Per a league source, the decision came down to the Eagles and the Vikings.

Both made solid offers, but Curtis in the end opted for Philly, due in large part to the presence of coach Andy Reid and the string of success that the franchise has enjoyed on his watch.

It also was a plus, we're told, that both Reid and Curtis are members of the Mormon religion.

The question wasn't ever about what kind of deal Walker would get. It was about when do you give in to a player's demands, and give them a new deal. After one good year and with two year's remaining on his contract or after they've proven to be a good player for a couple of years. Driver and Harris had at least two good years before their deals were reworked and they weren't looking to get "paid" like Javon was. They restructured their deals and got a slight bump in pay. It's about the precedent you are going to set for dealing with other players on the team--especially when you are a new GM who just walked in the door. Plus, Walker made a huge issue out of his deal--while Harris and Driver handled it in a professional manner. I think that sends a message to the players. Work hard, do well, keep your mouth shut, and know that the Packers will reward you--rather than have one good year, cry like a baby, and get rewarded. A GM would have 10 players knocking at his door if he set that precedent.

Tracking the comings and goings in free agency

By Adam Schefter
NFL Analyst

Free agency has opened with a flurry of activity. Already, numerous teams are on the board. Take a glance at the deals, and the potential soon-to-be deals.

Tuesday, March 20

The Denver Broncos reached agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Brandon Stokely. The 30-year-old Stokely also visited the New Orleans Saints but opted for the Broncos. Stokely is coming off a torn achilles, but he is expected to be ready for training camp.

Monday, March 19

The Denver Broncos cut defensive end Courtney Brown after the former No. 1 overall pick failed his physical.

Philadelphia free-agent linebacker Shawn Barber visited the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans this past weekend.

Chicago free-agent defensive tackle Ian Scott visited the Minnesota Vikings.

Saturday, March 17

The Kansas City Chiefs, who have spent the past week bolstering their defensive line, did it again. They reached agreement with free-agent DE Jimmy Wilkerson, who spent the past four seasons with the Chiefs. Wilkerson signed a one-year deal.

Friday, March 16

Busy day in Tampa Bay. Three prominent free agents visited the Buccaneers: linebackers Cato June and Chris Draft, and defensive end Charles Grant. June helped the Colts win the Super Bowl last season, and Grant was designated the New Orleans Saints' franchise player.

The Cincinnati Bengals signed free-agent center Alex Stepanovich, formerly of the Arizona Cardinals.

Cincinnati opted not to match the offer sheet restricted free-agent defensive tackle Shaun Smith signed with Cleveland, meaning Smith now belongs to the Browns.

Dallas opted not to match the offer sheet restricted free-agent linebacker Ryan Fowler signed with Tennessee, meaning Fowler now belongs to the Titans.

The Philadelphia Eagles reached an agreement Friday with free agent RB Correll Buckhalter on a two-year contract. The deal is expected to eliminate the chance that the Eagles would sign free agent RB Ron Dayne, who visited the team earlier this week.

Thursday, March 15

Ordinarily, players slapped with the franchise tag are off limits. But Tampa Bay is challenging it. The Buccaneers are scheduled to bring Saints free-agent defensive end Charles Grant, whom New Orleans franchised last month, to their training complex Friday for a visit.

Grant's agent, Bill Johnson, confirmed the visit, saying, "They're crazy about Charles."

Should the Buccaneers opt to sign Grant to an offer sheet that New Orleans declined to match, Tampa Bay would have to surrender two first-round picks to the Saints. Of course, the two teams also could always agree to a sign-and-trade deal, although the two teams play in the same division and New Orleans might be leery about facing the 28-year-old Grant twice a season. Nevertheless, the Buccaneers have arranged for Grant to visit Tampa Bay on Friday so that the key members of their organization will be there to meet with him.

The Philadelphia Eagles have reached an agreement with former St. Louis free agent WR Kevin Curtis on a six-year, $32 million deal that includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money. The Titans and Vikings made strong pushes for Curtis at the end, but he opted for the Eagles.

Free-agent FB Vonta Leach visited the Cleveland Browns.

Free-agent guard Cosey Coleman visited the Detroit Lions.

Free-agent linebacker Chris Draft visited the St. Louis Rams.

Free-agent safety Bryan Scott visited the Tennessee Titans.

Free-agent RB Ron Dayne is visiting the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

Wednesday, March 14

The Washington Redskins reached agreement with free agent OL Todd Wade on a two-year, $6.2 million deal that includes $3.5 million worth of guranteed money.

Former Cowboys QB Drew Henson reached agreement with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year contract for the minimum.

Cleveland released veteran RB Terrelle Smith.

Jacksonville signed free-agent kicker Tony Yelk, who went to Iowa State.

Green Bay signed exclusive rights free-agent RB Noah Herron.

Atlanta tried out two free-agent offensive linemen, guard Toniu Fonoti and tackle Leander Jordan

Houston restricted free-agent fullback Vonta Leach visited the New York Giants.

Tuesday, March 13

The Tennessee Titans reached agreement with free-agent CB Nick Harper on a three-year deal. The contract is expected to be signed Wednesday. Harper provides the Titans with the depth they need with the uncertainty surrounding Pacman Jones' football future.

The New Orleans Saints signed former Cincinnati free-agent safety Kevin Kaesviharn to a four-year, $10 million contract that included $3.2 million in guaranteed money. Kaesviharn also had visited the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans, and the Bengals wanted to re-sign him.

The Detroit Lions signed free-agent CB Travis Fisher to a one-year, $2.25 million deal that includes a $1 million signing bonus and a $1.25 million base salary for 2007.

St. Louis free-agent WR Kevin Curtis is visiting the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday. Curtis already has visited the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles.

Indianapolis free-agent WR Brandon Stokely visited the Denver Broncos on Monday. Stokely already had visited the New Orleans Saints, and the Indianapolis Colts would like to re-sign him.

Tampa Bay free-agent TE Doug Jolley is scheduled to arrive in Carolina on Tuesday night for a visit Wednesday with the Panthers.

Tampa Bay signed former San Diego free-agent defensive back Sammy Davis.

Denver re-signed free-agent defensive end Kenny Peterson, who spent part of last season with the Broncos. Also, Chicago's free-agent defensive tackle Ian Scott visited the Broncos.

Kansas City free-agent defensive tackle Jimmy Wilkerson visited the Green Bay Packers.

Seattle free-agent wide receiver Bobby Engram visited the New Orleans Saints.

Not only did St. Louis free-agent wide receiver Kevin Curtis visit the Tennessee Titans, but so did Chicago Bears free-agent wide receiver Justin Gage.

Tennessee free-agent linebacker Colby Bockwoldt is visiting the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Green Bay reached agreement Tuesday with former Giants free-agent cornerback Frank Walker on a one-year, $1.24 million contract that includes $250,000 worth of bonuses. Walker is expected to be Green Bay's nickel back.

Monday, March 12

Buffalo re-signed running back Anthony Thomas to a two-year, $2.8 million deal that includes a $400,000 signing bonus.

Dallas released veteran offensive tackle Jason Fabini, one of Bill Parcells' acquisitions from the New York Jets.

The Indianapolis Colts signed free agent quarterback John Navarre, a one-time starter for the Arizona Cardinals.

Denver re-signed wide receiver/kick returner Quincy Morgan, who joined the Broncos last season.

Chicago free agent defensive tackle Alfonso Boone visited the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Detroit Lions signed free-agent wide receiver Shaun McDonald to a two-year, $2.8 million deal that includes $1.5 million in guaranteed money. McDonald will be reunited with Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz, who drafted him in St. Louis.

The New England Patriots have signed another free-agent wide receiver, this time former Cincinnati Bengal Kelley Washington. The Patriots gave Washington a five-year deal worth up to $22 million, including a $300,000 signing bonus. The deal is similar in structure to the one that Donte' Stallworth signed with the Patriots. It contains a $4 million roster bonus payment that the Patriots will have to decide whether they want to pay a year from now. Washington turned down the chance to play in Miami, opting instead for New England.

Saturday, March 10

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent LB Donnie Edwards to a three-year, $13.5 million deal including $7.5 million guaranteed.

Friday, March 9
Free-agent running back T.J. Duckett agreed to terms with the Detroit Lions on a one-year contract. The $1.5 million deal sends Duckett back to Michigan, where he starred at Michigan State.

The Raiders reached agreement Friday evening with Atlanta 's free-agent fullback Justin Griffith on a three-year, $3.8 million contract, completing a whirlwind day of activity in Oakland. The deal is contingent upon Griffith passing his physical.

It was a busy day for the Browns. The team terminated the contract of veteran cornerback Daylon McCutcheon on Friday after he failed his physical. It also traded running back Reuben Droughns, who was due a $1.75 million roster bonus next week, to the New York Giants for wide receiver Tim Carter. Cleveland also signed Cincinnati restricted free agent defensive tackle Shaun Smith to an offer sheet. The Bengals now have until March 17 to decide whether or not to match.

Not only did the Raiders sign running back Dominic Rhodes to a two-year deal, but they also did the same with a pair of free-agent tight ends -- former Arizona Cardinal Bob Wakefield and former Cincinnati Bengal Tony Stewart. The 2007 NFL free-agent class is a bare market

By Vinnie Iyer - SportingNews

More: NFL free agent need-to-know lists

Teams have more money to spend than they have at any point in the salary cap era, but that has allowed many of them to keep their top players -- and has led to a weaker free-agent class than usual. When the market opens Friday, there will be only a handful of impact players available -- most notably Nate Clements and Adalius Thomas.

Here is a position-by-position breakdown of what's out there in a bare market for unrestricted free agents:

Quarterbacks

1. Jeff Garcia (signed by Buccaneers)
2. Damon Huard, Chiefs (re-signed by Chiefs)
3. Aaron Brooks, Raiders
4. Kerry Collins, Titans (re-signed by Titans)
5. Tim Rattay, Buccaneers

Garcia, 37, and Huard, 33, proved last season they still can be effective as fill-in starters, but considering their ages they are no more than stopgaps. The Chiefs just didn't want to chance losing Huard. This market is ideal for teams in need of insurance plans for established starters. The quarterback pool could get considerably deeper with Jake Plummer, David Carr looming as potential cap casualties; the likes of Patrick Ramsey, Joey Harrington and Brad Johnson already expand the backup options.

Running backs

1. Dominic Rhodes, Colts (signed by Raiders)
2. Ahman Green, Packers (signed by Texans)
3. Jamal Lewis, Ravens (signed by Browns)
4. Ron Dayne, Texans (re-signed by Texans)
5. T.J. Duckett, Redskins (signed by Lions)

Although the trend of backfield committees has opened up more opportunities for veteran runners, it also means teams don't need to spend big money on a feature back. They often can find equally strong complementary options in the draft. So don't expect any of this year's free-agent backs, even with the added availability of Lewis, a former 2,000-yard rusher, to break the bank the way Edgerrin James did in 2006. Rhodes has ascended to No. 1 because of his tough, productive running throughout the playoffs; he features both low mileage and experience. Going down further, Sammy Morris (signed by the Patriots) got good interest because of having healthier knees than both Correll Buckhalter and Corey Dillon. It made sense Houston got Green after he excelled in Green Bay's zone-blocking scheme, stealing him from Denver.

Wide receivers

1. Donte' Stallworth, Eagles (signed by Patriots)
2. Kevin Curtis, Rams (signed by Eagles)
3. Drew Bennett, Titans (signed by Rams)
4. Bobby Engram, Seahawks
5. Joe Horn, Saints (signed by Falcons)

Teams in dire need of speed couldn't ask for better top-end options. Stallworth and Curtis could be confused for track stars considering how they pull away on downfield routes. Bennett isn't as fast, but his athleticism and size (6-5, 206) make him a jump ball threat. The rest of the wideouts, starting with Engram, are possession and No. 3 types. With a built-in "recruiting" advantage, the 49ers are in the best shape to upgrade their passing game -- Stallworth grew up near the Bay Area. Horn's recent run of injuries and age (35) make him more of a complementary possession type, much like Engram.

Tight ends

1. Daniel Graham, Patriots (signed by Broncos)
2. Jerramy Stevens, Seahawks
3. Reggie Kelly, Bengals (re-signed by Bengals)
4. Kyle Brady, Jaguars (signed by Patriots)
5. Eric Johnson, 49ers (signed by Saints)

Teams looking for receiving talent are better off waiting until April for a top-loaded draft class of impact tight ends, including Arizona State's Zach Miller and Miami's Greg Olsen. Overall, the free-agent tight ends are a mix of journeymen and limited athletes. Graham is No. 1 on this list because he's a strong all-around tight end, but he's not a pure pass catcher. Stevens has inconsistent hands, and Johnson is a major injury risk. Teams looking for superior run blockers, however, have fine options in Kelly and Brady. The Chiefs locked up the only possible elite option, Tony Gonzalez, in January with a five-year extension.

Offensive tackles

1. Leonard Davis, LT, Cardinals (signed by Cowboys)
2. Jon Stinchcomb, RT, Saints (re-signed by Saints)
3. Marc Colombo, RT, Cowboys (re-signed by Cowboys)
4. Anthony Clement, RT, Jets (re-signed by Jets)
5. Jordan Black, LT, Chiefs (signed by Texans)

Good pass-protecting left tackles don't usually make it to the free-agent market. Even though there isn't much help here for strong blindside protection, there are some big players who can boost off-tackle/perimeter teams' running games. Davis is the biggest and best tackle on the list, but buyers must beware because he never lived up to expectations in Arizona and he wants big bucks. Stinchcomb, coming off a breakthrough season in which he started every game for New Orleans, figures to be a better value.

Guards

1. Eric Steinbach (signed by Browns)
2. Kris Dielman, Chargers (re-signed by Chargers)
3. Derrick Dockery (signed by Bills)
4. Cooper Carlisle, Broncos
5. Sean Mahan, Buccaneers

Steinbach isn't at the Steve Hutchinson level, but he has blossomed into one of the game's top interior linemen. Expect him and Dielman, another relatively young guard on a top offense, to draw a lot of interest and sign early. Look for the other guards -- and several of the tackles who have experience inside -- to get smaller deals as teams simply try to plug holes. If clubs in need want to be more aggressive, both Colts starters, Jake Scott and Ryan Lilja, are restricted free agents.

Centers

1. Shaun O'Hara, Giants (re-signed by Giants)
2. Hank Fraley, Browns (re-signed by Browns)
3. Jeremy Newberry, 49ers (signed by Raiders)
4. Al Johnson, Cowboys (signed by Cardinals)
5. Kendyl Jacox, Dolphins

Teams looking for starting experience wouldn't have been disappointed in either O'Hara or Fraley; each is entering his eighth season. But at the last minute, the Giants, after talks going back and forth, locked up O'Hara and the Browns, with concerns over LeCharles Bentley's health, kept Fraley from leaving. Newberry didn't start a game last year because of lingering knee problems, but if he comes back healthy he has the potential to perform as he did when he made Pro Bowls in 2001 and '02. Johnson didn't start a game last season but was stuck behind sturdy Andre Gurode, whom Dallas re-signed. The above-average guard pool will allow teams well under the cap to nicely upgrade their interior line.

Defensive ends

1. Patrick Kerney, Falcons (signed by Seahawks)
2. Chris Kelsay, Bills (re-signed by Bills)
3. Alvin McKinley, Browns (signed by Broncos)
4. Dewayne White, Buccaneers (signed by Lions)
5. Jarret Johnson, Ravens (re-signed by Ravens)

This once was a promising department in the free-agent store, but then the Bengals' Justin Smith, the Colts' Dwight Freeney and the Saints' Charles Grant received franchise tags. If Kerney weren't on the open market, this position would resemble a clearance rack. Because of the lacking depth here, the Bills were smart to lock up Kelsay, a rising pass rusher. After McKinley, a tackle type who plays end in a 3-4 scheme, teams will have to settle for good part-time pass rushers with an eye toward improving the depth of their rotations.

Defensive tackles

1. Alfonso Boone, Bears (signed by Chiefs)
2. Ian Scott, Bears
3. Ron Edwards, Chiefs (re-signed by Chiefs)
4. Michael Myers, Broncos
5. James Reed, Chiefs

Boone and Scott helped the Bears hold up well amid the issues surrounding Tommie Harris (injury) and Tank Johnson (off-field troubles). Because they played in Chicago's version of the Tampa 2 scheme, look for teams that run similar defenses to be interested. The same Bucs influence exists in Kansas City, where Edwards and Reed were average starters. Myers is intriguing because of his versatility and experience playing multiple line positions. There are no impact gap-cloggers -- at best, these tackles will work in complementary roles to fill holes.

Outside linebackers

1. Adalius Thomas (signed by Patriots)
2. Cato June, Colts (signed by Buccaneers)
3. Joey Porter, Steelers (signed by Dolphins)
4. LaVar Arrington, Giants
5. Tully Banta-Cain, Patriots (signed by 49ers)

The Ravens are trying to make the finances work to keep Thomas, but if they don't, they will be among the many suitors for June, another versatile playmaker. The recent release of Porter, who had seven sacks and two picks in 2006, means this position has three surefire impact players. Arrington certainly has that potential, but his recent injury-hampered seasons make him a risky signing. Banta-Cain played his way into being one of the more coveted free agents with his emergence as a fine 3-4 pass-rush specialist in 2006. This position grades out the best because of the quality at the top (further improved by Porter), but the quantity is good, too.

Inside linebackers

1. London Fletcher-Baker (signed by Redskins)
2. Kawika Mitchell, Chiefs
3. Napoleon Harris, Vikings (signed by Chiefs)
4. Chris Draft, Panthers (signed by Rams)
5. Peter Sirmon, Titans

Although there are no spectacular fly-to-the-ball playmakers, there are good middlemen capable of consistently wrapping up ballcarriers. Fletcher-Baker, Draft and Sirmon are undersized 30-something linebackers who offer solid play and leadership without much flash. Mitchell and Harris are 250-plus-pound athletes with more long-term upside. There is no lack of variety at this spot, so suitors must weigh youth vs. experience, strength vs. quickness and production vs. potential to determine who fits best in their schemes and is most worthy of signing for '07 and beyond.

Cornerbacks

1. Nate Clements (signed by 49ers)
2. Nick Harper, Colts (signed by Titans)
3. Tory James, Bengals
4. Roderick Hood, Eagles (signed by Cardinals)
5. Travis Fisher, Rams (signed by Lions)

The Patriots' decision to put the franchise tag on Asante Samuel tempers enthusiasm for what's left at this position, but it's still a relatively strong pool. With his combination of playmaking and durability, Clements is the ultimate prize of the '07 class, and that means his services will come with a steep price. Harper is yet another Colt who boosted himself during the team's Super Bowl run. James (age 33), Hood (a career backup before filling in as a starter in '06) and Fisher (coming off an arm injury) all have issues, but all three are capable of contributing as No. 2 corners.

Safeties

1. Ken Hamlin, Seahawks
2. Deon Grant, Jaguars (signed by Seahawks)
3. Michael Lewis (signed by 49ers)
4. Terrence Holt, Lions (signed by Cardinals)
5. Brian Russell, Browns (signed by Seahawks)

It's a good thing there isn't a dearth of safeties in the draft because the free-agent pickings are slim after Hamlin, an above-average starter, and Grant, an adequate one. Lewis and Holt are not starting-caliber players anymore, and Russell is coming off a season-ending elbow injury. After that, there are some aging retreads, including Robert Griffith and Tony Parrish. The lack of intriguing names and the desire several teams have to upgrade at safety mean Hamlin is in position for a big payday.

Specialists

1. Jay Feely, K, Giants (signed by Dolphins)
2. Martin Gramatica, K, Cowboys (re-signed by Cowboys)
3. Morten Andersen, K, Falcons
4. Torrie Cox, gunner, Buccaneers
5. Matt Turk, P, Rams

2007 DRAFT NEEDS

presented by PFT

So here they are. A team-by-team analysis of franchise needs for the coming NFL draft. To accomplish this 32-team task, we've enlisted the help of Matt Miller of NewEraScouting.com, who'll assist us in identifying the areas where the various teams need to add bodies.

Our goal is to add one new team per day, starting March 18 and continuing through April 20. Since the draft doesn't start until April 28, it gives us a built-in buffer of eight days, in the event we fall behind at some point in the process.

Here they are -- from No. 1 to No. 32:

Fullback passes on Packers - Terrelle Smith signs with Arizona

Posted: March 23, 2007

Another day, another whiff by the Green Bay Packers in free agency.

Fullback Terrelle Smith, who visited the Packers on Tuesday and received an offer later on, has decided to sign a two-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals, his agent, Ryan Tollner, said Friday.

Smith, who was released by the Cleveland Browns on March 14, played for Packers coach Mike McCarthy when both were with the New Orleans Saints, but he also has ties to Arizona's new running backs coach, Maurice Carthon, who was offensive coordinator in Cleveland.

Tollner would not comment on whether the Packers were competitive with their offer.

"I don't think contract terms were the deciding factor," Tollner said.

Smith attended Arizona State University and said earlier in the week that he wanted to be close to his southern California roots. Tollner wouldn't say whether the Packers could have gotten him to overlook those ties with a more lucrative contract.

The 6-foot, 255-pound Smith, 29, conceivably would have replaced veteran William Henderson, whom Green Bay released, and competed with Brandon Miree for playing time. Smith follows Atlanta free-agent fullback Justin Griffith in choosing another team over the Packers.

In all, Green Bay has had six players in for visits and only one, cornerback Frank Walker, signed with the club.
