What do you think of Sabby Piscitelli, a safety from Oregon State?

NFL Draft Countdown has us taking him in the third.

He played safety in college, but Sporting News projects him as a linebacker because of his inability to cover deep routes. He is a project, and might be a good mid-to-late round pick. 3rd round is too early for him though.

Read a report that says he has a reputation for being 'false-tough' (whatever that means) and is not very well=liked by teammates (whatever that means!).

I have watched Piscitelli start as a safety for the Oregon State Beavers the past two years.

He has big size for a safety. I believe he is about 6'1", 210 lbs. He also has great straight ahead speed for his size. I think his combine speed was about 4.45 or something. His cover, on-the-field speed seems about average

Overall, he was a very good Division I college safety.

What concerns me about Piscitelli's pro prospects is that he was not an impact player in college. Though he had above average physical talents, he prescence and play-making really did not change the outcomes of games like a top round draft choice will do.

Another poster claimed Piscitelli was not well liked by teammates. I have not heard anything negative about him, either in his relations with teammates nor coaches.

Though I would want any Oregon player to succeed in the pros, I will try to be as neutral as possible about him. Though he is an impressive physical speciman of an athlete, he just does not seem like a strong pro prospect to me.

IMO, I would not draft him any higher than the 6th round.

I was wrong about his size. Some places list him at 6'2", others at 6"3". All agree with his weight at 224 lbs. That size is very big for a safety. This leads me to think there is some truth to those who want to convert him to linebacker as a pro.

As some of you know, Nick Barnett played his first two seasons as a safety at Oregon State. His junior and senior year position was as outside linebacker.

2006: Piscitelli (pronounced PIS-kuh-TELL-ee) is one of the premier safeties in the conference...the quarterback of the defensive backfield...also has seen spot action at cornerback...a knack for being around the ball and making a big play... played in 36 consecutive games and has made 23 straight starts...one of the fastest players on the team and a generally underrated player...tied for 10th at OSU for career interceptions with 10, which also represents the most by any active player in the Pac-10...enters the year with 113 tackles and 17 pass breakups...returned a Matt Moore pass 41 yards for a TD in the spring game...2006 Nagurski Watch List member. 2005: Piscitelli earned Pac-10 Honorable Mention honors for the second straight year...third on the team for tackles with 53 and led the team for interceptions with four...had a career-high eight tackles against Washington State in a game that he returned an interception 23 yards for the game-tying score...also recovered an Al Afalava forced fumble on WSU receiver Michael Bumpus that led to the go-ahead score...his interception against California with 8:35 left in the contest set up the winning score in the upset of the No. 18 Bears...also had eight tackles at Cal. 2004: Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 Conference...started all 12 games at strong safety...tied for second on the team for interceptions with five and was a key figure in OSU tying for fourth in the nation for team interceptions with 19...had one interception in each of the first three games and at the time led the Pac-10 and was tied for second in the NCAA...later intercepted passes against Arizona and Oregon...his interceptions against Boise State and Oregon led to Beaver touchdowns...made 54 tackles, sixth on the team...had a season-high seven tackles at Boise State and vs. USC...also made eight pass breakups, had one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. 2003: Piscitelli played all 13 games and was a key member on special teams...made six tackles for the season, including two against Washington State...intercepted one pass against New Mexico in the Las Vegas Bowl.

BOCA RATON: Piscitelli was a two-year letterman and starter at free safety and wide receiver for head coach Bruce Dodds...Defensive Player of the Year in District 10 (5A division) by the Boca Raton News...second team all-state, first team all-area, all-county and all-conference as a senior...league leader for interceptions his final season with seven and for sacks with 10...team MVP his senior season...as a receiver he caught 22 passes for 420 yards and four touchdowns as a senior...as a junior he caught 11 passes for 200 yards...his top game as a prep was against No. 1 ranked W.T. Dwyer where he produced eight tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and caught a touchdown pass...did not play football until his junior year...also a standout baseball player
