Ex-No. 2 pick Murphy takes up coaching

Press-Gazette

Terrence Murphy, released by the Green Bay Packers a year ago after sustaining a career-ending neck injury, is pursuing a coaching career.

He’s helping coach wide receivers and kick returners at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas, not far from his hometown of Chapel Hill. He starred as a receiver and kick returner at Texas A&M.

Murphy, 24, looked into a real estate career after his release from the Packers, but decided to return to football in another capacity.

“I wanted to explore other things and take a rest from football, but I realized that wasn’t for me,” Murphy told the Athens Daily Review.

A second-round pick of the Packers in 2005, he was injured that October on a helmet-to-helmet hit from Carolina’s Thomas Davis during a kickoff return. Tests later showed Murphy has stenosis, a narrowing of the spine near the neck.

Wish the best for the guy. He could've been a really good WR and could've been that extra weapon Favre needed last year.
