DeShawn Wynn was the starting RB on a national championship Gator team loaded with talent. A big factor during his time at Florida was the coaching change that took place after his second year. The new coach (Urban Meyer) always seemed to be looking to replace him.......yet no one was able to take his spot.

His stats and contributions to the Gators are readily available. But it is interesting to look a little deeper. He was very highly recruited coming out of High School in Ohio as one of the nations "elite" running backs. One or two "services" had him ranked as the number 1 running back in the nation his senior year. Rivals had him ranked in the top 4 and all the rest included him as one of the top backs in the nation.

He has talent........but what does it mean to the Packers? Will he even make the team? Or is he a potential starter one day? Or something in between? It will be interesting watch it play out.

I was wondering what you thought of this dude. Its great when the fan of a player's school give his perspective. Not that anyone listens to me about Fresno St player!

I also read about this guy. I like the pick. Is he more of a bruiser tyoe vs Jackson?

I like the pick b/c he has the physical talent to succeed...

I'd be surprised if he actually made it though. He's lazy, has weight issues, and doesn't have a driven personality. To me that adds up to failure.

You never know with these kids though... they're young. Maturity can cure up a lot of personality red flags; but, then again, some of these kids never grow up.

I don't like him. He looks like a poor man's LenDale White. If he can play FB, he has more value there. Then, he can spell the HBs in an emergency situation.

I'm hoping this will be where one of Thompson's drafting strategies pays dividends. With a few exceptions, Thompson tends to draft guys who are display motivation, intelligence, and leadership. I'm hoping that if you stock the locker room with enough leaders, they can turn the head cases around.

But, if he gets cut, he's a 7th round pick. They usually get cut.

He's one of those guys who need to understand that his ticket to the NFL is how he plays on special teams. He can worry about what position he's going to play later. Edgar Bennett seems to think he's ok attitude-wise. We'll see.

I'd imagine he gets nicked up b/c he's not dedicated to being in shape...

You really have to wonder how dumb a guy must be to have millions of $$$ worth of talent - are least millions of $$$ worth of potential - and then to just take that opportunity and shrug it off with a nonchalant attitude.

If millions of $$$$ and a lifetime of financial security aren't enough to get a guy motivated, what would be???

Some of these guys are just unbelievable morons.

This guy is intruiging(how the hell you spell that word?) anyhow. A 7th rounder on a guy with much more talent than that is a good situation...Kids do grow up, and well I'm sure he has been coddled his whole life. Not no more, so he'll either earn it or go to work for Home Depot...

The guy said a number of wrong things to the media.

He could be bounced quickly with a bad attitude.

If he keeps his mouth shut, respects the rules and coaches, he might last a couple of years.

A guy like Reggie was great at helping guys like this get their mind right.

You gotta like a guy who allegedly missed a play in practice b/c he was talking on his cell phone on the sidelines. I'm sure that happens more than we know though.

He was called on to gain some tough yards when needed......and often got them. He has the size to run inside. One big question is........does he see himself as a bruiser type?

Couches went out years ago when psychological studies concluded patients were developing sleep phobias along with other various dependencies as a result of over use. The new in vogue apparatus is a messaging recliner.

A lot of Gator fans felt the same way towards him. Every year they would sign a highly recruited back or two that (according to hype) were going to take his place but none were ever able to get him out of the lineup. The FB option is an interesting one. Not sure what kind of a blocker he is........but he has the size.

Don't be surprised if former Reading High School football star RB DeShawn Wynn ends up with the Cincinnati Bengals on draft day.

The Florida Gator running back has eased his way up the charts ever since his performance in the National Championship game against Ohio State. Wynn continued to improve on his stock with a stellar performance at the Scouting Combine last month.

Several teams took notice of the workout including the hometown Bengals. Wynn had a formal meeting with the Bengals while at the combine followed by an informal chat with the club during the school's pro day two weeks ago. If that's not enough, the Bengals are scheduled to have Wynn in for a visit April 17th.

Versatile back

At 5-foot-11, 232-pounds, Wynn is considered one of the bigger backs entering the draft, not to mention one of the most physical runners.

He's best described as a Stephen Davis type bruising runner. Wynn rushed for 699 yards on 143 carries averaging 4.9 yards a pop and made six trips to the end zone this past season.

However, Gator fans never really got to see what the former high school All-America running back was truly capable of since he was forced to play in three different offenses in his five-year career at Florida.

Wynn was asked to do a lot of things besides run the ball, which he was definitely capable of doing if given the opportunity. As a high school senior, Wynn got more yards than a lawncare service rushing for 2,283 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Wynn has a good frame for running in between the tackles and can take a lot of hits. He has a good burst and is a big back who can do some of the things as a smaller back. He can be a workhorse and is most effective in the I-formation.

The wrong idea

There were a lot of misconceptions about Wynn coming into the draft process. One was his speed and the other was a couple of little run-ins with the coaching staff while at Florida. Wynn addressed both misconceptions.

Coming into the combine, scouts had some preconceived notion that Wynn was tortoise slow, but he quickly proved them wrong when he ran a 4.45 in the 40-yard dash last month.

As for the run-ins with the coaching staff, Wynn takes full responsibility.

"The biggest misconception out there is that I'm not a hard worker, which probably was the case early in my career at UF and has followed me until now," he said. "I definitely don't think you can say I'm not a hard worker if I can play for Urban Meyer for two years and be the starting tailback.

" I led the team in rushing and put in a lot of work for coach Meyer to prove that I can handle it. That's something I improved on throughout my career. I definitely had some immaturity problems early in my career, but that's part of growing up and it helped me to grow a lot and look at things from a different perspective," Wynn said.

Wynn never had any off-the-field problems and changed his ways when coach Meyer called him out in front of the entire team.

"I wasn't down with the coach call out at first. I thought coach was picking on me. Then I started to do the things he told me to do and started to see a difference in myself on and off the field. Coach definitely influenced me and I had no choice but to do the right things. The change really helped me," he said.

It's true, change is good.

Wynn has flown under the radar up until now and the sudden gain of interest has teams like the Bengals, who are looking to add depth to the backfield, are taking a hard look at the one time high school phenom.

I actually liked his highlight vids. I know thats not saying much, but he does look like he has some abilty. I think he beats out Herron for the number 3 spot.
