Packers sign their fifth-round pick

Receiver David Clowney was the first of the Green Bay Packers' 11 draft choices to sign a contract, the team announced Monday.
Clowney, a 6-foot, 188-pound dual sport athlete from Virginia Tech, was selected in the fifth round (157th overall) in the NFL draft. The team did not disclose terms of the contract.
After undergoing an emergency appendectomy on Sept. 21, Clowney, as the lone senior, returned nine days later to lead the Hokies last season with 34 receptions for 424 yards. At Virginia Tech, he played in 49 games, with 18 starts and six touchdowns overall, but he is best known for his speed. He was also a sprinter for the track team, setting a school indoor record with a time of 6.94 seconds in the 60-meter dash at the Atlantic Coast Conference championships in 2005.
