Has anyone heard anything about the battle for the kicking spot? How did the kid do? Did I miss a post about it? Sorry if I did.

The only thing I have seen are comments from Rayner saying he isn't worried about where he is right now. He claims the job will be won or lost in training camp. Sounds like a slacker to me. Crosby has just as strong of a leg as Rayner and he has been kicking field goals in recent years when Rayner was kicking off only. If Rayner doesn't change his attitude and take Crosby seriously, he will lose the job. Right now, I would say it's Crosby 1 Rayner 0.

I am sure he was doing field goals in practice while in Indy, and all year in GB last year

It will depend on training camp and more importantly whether one or the other chokes in pre-season games.

Brett Conway, anyone?

I am more concerned with our kick-off coverage.

Maybe, but how many reps could he realistically get backing up Vanderjagt? Not many. What's funny is I believe his first attempt for Green Bay was a 50+ yarder and he missed. His only attempt in Indy was a 50+ yarder he missed. Big difference from being "the" field goal kicker and the "kick off" specialist. I think Rayner has an attitude that only losing his job will cure. I don't think he realizes that he is in the same boat as Crosby, unproven.
