I always thought this was one of the better songs about father/son (or daughter) relationships:

DADDY'S TUNE Lyrics
Artist(Band):Jackson Browne

A dirty wind blows through the sky
And the Autumn leaves cut loose and fly
Leave me watching
And wishing I could follow
Though among the regrets that I can't get by
There are just one or two
Unkind things I said to you
Daddy what was I supposed to do?
I don't know why it was so hard to talk to you
I guess my anger pulled me through

No sooner had I hit the streets
When I met the fools that a young fool meets
All in search of truth and bound for glory
And listening to our own heart beats
We stood around the drum
Though it's fainter now
The older I become
Living your life day after day
Soon all your plans and changes
Either fail or fade away
Leaving so much still left to say

But Daddy I want to let you know somehow
The things you said are so much clearer now
And I would turn the pages back
But time will not allow
The way these days just rip along
Too fast to last, too vast, too strong

Somewhere something went wrong
Or maybe we forgot the song
Make room for my forty-fives
Along beside your seventy-eights
Nothing survives
But the way we live our lives

Thanks for the kind thoughts, folks.

For my Father's Day gift, all I wanted is for my family to hike up to the top of Larch Mountain here in Oregon located east of Portland on the Columbia River Gorge. At 4,056', you can see the top 5 peaks of the Pacific Northwest including Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier in Washington and Mt. Hood in Oregon.

We took the hike today instead of Sunday due to other family committments. No sooner had we started the hike when a thick fog began rolling in.

Once we reached the summit, the visibility was less than 1/2 mile! There wasn't a mountain peak in sight! The best laid plans...

The bottom line is that we had quality family time doing a healthy activity in the outdoors.

Have a good one tomorrow!

DADDY'S TUNE Lyrics

Unfortunately, some of us didn't have very good relationships:

Adam Raised a Cain--Bruce Springsteen

In the summer that I was baptized
my father held me to his side
As they put me to the water
he said how on that day I cried
We were prisoners of love, a love in chains
He was standin' in the door I was standin' in the rain
With the same hot blood burning in our veins
Adam raised a Cain

All of the old faces
ask you why you're back
They fit you with position
and the keys to your daddy's Cadillac
In the darkness of your room
your mother calls you by your true name
You remember the faces, the places, the names
You know it's never over it's relentless as the rain
Adam raised a Cain

In the Bible Cain slew Abel
and East of Eden he was cast
You're born into this life paying
for the sins of somebody else's past
Daddy worked his whole life for nothing but the pain
Now he walks these empty rooms looking for something to blame
You inherit the sins, you inherit the flames
Adam raised a Cain

Lost but not forgotten, from the dark heart of a dream
Adam raised a Cain

My favorite fathers days sone is "Watching You" by Rodney Atkins.

Hope the link works. I have a two year old son and it makes me think of him. It's a great song too because we are our the role models for our kids.
