This past week almost 100 Federal immigration agents raided Fresh Del Monte in Portland, OR. It is a food processing plant which is part of the national Del Monte corporation.

Agents detained 167 alleged illegal aliens(or "Undocumented workers"). They also detained 3 managers of the contractor company, American Staffing.

The American Staffing agency, based in North Carolina, arranges unskilled workers for large companies.

The 3 managers are charged with providing false Social Security numbers for illegal aliens. Agents found that the SS #'s provided belonged to living disabled and elderly American citizens as well as deceased American citizens.

Off the 600 employees at Fresh Del Monte, only 48 workers were found to have valid SS #'s.

While a few immigration advocates criticized the raid, the majority of Oregonians responded with "It's about time!" type of reaction. There are many employers who are thought to willfully hire illegals in this state.

Here is another interesting tidbit about American Staffing. Up to 2005, a member of its Board of Directors was a man named Marvin Bush. He is the brother of President George W. Bush!

I am one poster who will not be buying any Del Monte products in the near future.

Here, here!

One would also hope that Del Monte and American Staffing also get some pretty stiff fines from this. All companies like this do is add more problems to an already out of control situation.
