NFL odds to win 2008 NFC Championship
Chicago Bears +450
Philadelphia Eagles +600
Seattle Seahawks +600
New Orleans Saints +600
Dallas Cowboys +600
Carolina Panthers +600
San Francisco 49ers +800
New York Giants +1200
Green Bay Packers +1800
Tampa Bay Buccaneers +1800
Arizona Cardinals +1800
St. Louis Rams +2000
Minnesota Vikings +2000
Washington Redskins +2000
Atlanta Falcons +2500
Detroit Lions +5000
I don't exactly understand the numbers, but this does put the Packers in the middle of the pack, which is probably where they belong. Actually, I think there are 3-4 teams in the top 8 that the Packers could surpass if some of the young veterans develop as I hope they will.

Pretty good list. The Pcakers have a lot of unprovens so they put us down a little. I think we could be better than 9th and even with the unprovens I think we're better than the Giants.
The Giants right now remind me of the Packers in Shermans last year as GM. They have an aging team with no one coming up to replace the aging vets.

The numbers mean....
If you put $100 down on the Bears at +450, you would win $450.
If you put $100 down on the Packers at +1800, you would win $1800.
Just imagine putting $100 on the Lions at +5000 and they overcome decades of futility, led by Calvin Johnson, and win. A cool $5000 payout. Also known as a "sucker bet".

The numbers also tell me Vegas views the Packers as one of the dregs of the NFC.

I hardy think 9th on the list would be considered a "dreg", at least we're the first on the "1200" odds  . The only thing that suprises me a bit is that the 49ers are only 600 odds, even above the Giants, and the Falcons are almost at the bottom, I may have moved each of those teams a bit closer to each other. These odds are so funny though, they usually have the teams that made the playoffs the previous year in the top, etc. etc. etc.. No real suprises.
I do have to add here, that in a different thread, I predicted that the Patriots and the Colts were going to the AFC Championship, the Bears and Eagles were going to the NFC Championship, and the Patriots will beat the Eagles in the Superbowl. At least the oddsmakers agree with my NFC picks  . Or should I be disturbed, since they are usually wrong!!

Here are the AFC odds. Personally I think it is ridiculous that the Patriots are almost even odds. I know they are good, but the AFC is very strong.

New England Patriots +125
San Diego Chargers +350
Indianapolis Colts +450
Baltimore Ravens +1200
Cincinnati Bengals +1400
Denver Broncos +1400
Pittsburgh Steelers +1500
Jacksonville Jaguars +1600
New York Jets +2000
Tennessee Titans +2500
Kansas City Chiefs +3000
Miami Dolphins +3000
Oakland Raiders +3500
Buffalo Bills +5000
Houston Texans +5000
Cleveland Browns +5000

Looking at where they are in the list in numerical order is the wrong way to go about it. The number for the Packers, +1800, signals also ran. Throw out the high - low (+450 & +5000) and you can clearly see they are ranked way closer to the back end than to the front end.
Hell, when you have the same odds to win the NFC Championship as the Arizona Cardinals, then the view from the professional bookies signals dreg.
It also supports my contention that I would be much more surprised to see the Packers finish 12-4 than 4-12.
Of course, that's why they play the games. Hopefully I'm surprised.

Quick, someone tell Bearman he can make a bundle betting on the Bears this season! :)
