Round 2/42 Danieal Manning, SS Complete Bio Page
HT WT College 2005 Stats
5-11 201 Abilene Christian
GP Tk Ast Sacks FR-FF TD Int

Scouting Report: Despite playing for a school with an enrolment of roughly 5,000, Manning made his mark at Abelene. He was a regular all-America selection and did it all for his team. Manning is a top-tier talent with speed to burn and a great physique. He's also very versatile and playing for a small school has made him a very good all-around defender. There are obvious questions about his ability to dominate the way he did at Division II, but Manning did indeed dominate and his pure measurable assets are impossible to ignore. He may start out as a special teams guy early on in the NFL, but he has the talent to be a starter eventually at either safety or cornerback. He's a super-sleeper.

Impact: Perhaps the biggest early sleeper pick of the draft, Manning is a potential steal for the Bears. With Jerry Azumah retiring and the team trading away Michael Green, the addition of talent in the secondary was vital, if even only for depth right now. Manning is a speed demon with a physical approach (which fits in well with the Bears style) and a great track record--despite excelling against less-than-elite competition. This is the type of player they were looking for when they traded Green away recently, and Manning will likely be a very good player early on in a special teams capacity.

Round 2/57 Devin Hester, WR Complete Bio Page
HT WT College 2005 Stats
5-11 185 Miami (Fla.)
GP Rec Yds Avg TD
10 5 55 11.0 0
Scouting Report: Yet another of the top-tier athletes to come out of Miami, Hester is a highly versatile player. Much like his mentor Deion Sanders, Hester has the ability to excel as a cornerback, wideout, and kick returner. There were some questions about his speed after a relatively slow time (for him) at the NFL Combine in Indinapolis (around 4.41), but Hester kicked it up at his pro day and showed scouts he has elite wheels. Hester probably will start his NFL career as a return specialist, since he never really stuck to one specialty at Miami and will need to learn one in order to become a star at the next level. Like his mentor Deion, Hester has special physical gifts. He's extremely agile and is a constant threat to make big plays, regardless of his position. If he can stick to one position he'll likely be a star, and that may come early with special teams play. He's one of the finest pure athletes in the draft.

Impact: The rich get richer. The NFL's best defense now adds their second high-potential secondary prospect with their second pick. Hester is arguably the best pure athlete at the cornerback position in this draft, but he is available here because he played so many positions at Miami. He can also play wide receiver, which is actually what the Bears require most, but for now remains an elite secondary prospect. Hester may take a while to develop but the Bears have the depth to let him take the time to learn. Eventually, he may be a steal.

Round 3/73 Dusty Dvoracek, DT Complete Bio Page
HT WT College 2005 Stats
6-3 305 Oklahoma
GP Tk Ast Sacks FR-FF TD Int
12 44 25 4-31 1-0 0 1-6-0
Scouting Report: A rising star early on at Oklahoma, Dvoracek finished well with the Sooners after missing a full season due to suspension. A bar fight led to the sanction, and while it's obvious Dvoracek can be an emotional player he seems to have matured since the incident. He's a fiery competitor with a very high motor, and also is a very bright guy who has done well academically. He's one of the most aggressive and energetic pass rushers in the draft, a real handful coming off the edge. Dvorak doesn't have ideal size, but may excel as an outside linebacker in the right set-up. He's a very athletic and powerful player and his intensity on the field is second to none. Coaches will obviously be concerned about his off-the-field problems, but Dvoracek has made every effort to learn from his mistakes.

Impact: This is a bit of a luxury pick for the Bears. They're sticking with defense, and in adding Dvoracek they become even stronger in an area they already excel in. Dvoracek is a little like a defensive line version of Brian Urlacher, in that he's a hard-working guy with deceptive speed who can get into the backfield with ease. Dvoracek had some major off-field troubles in college but he seems to have put them behind him. If he can stay focused he's a real steal here, a guy with starter potential who has the raw intangibles to be a leader if he keeps working hard.

If you ask me, the Bears had a BRUTAL first round!

The only thing they got out of it is a possible return specialist. If Hester develops, it will be a great pick. Other then that, I think they reached on their selections and still have NO impact TE!

I was listening to the SCORE AM670 during their draft picks. The guys were livid! They hated these picks, they hated the trade down and feel their offense is going to be crappy again this year! It was hilarious!

Hester was their consolation gift for losing out on Randal El.

I'd say da Bears were definitely the losers of the NFC North up to this point
