Denver Broncos defensive end Kenny Peterson has been suspended without pay for violating the NFL's steroid policy, the team said today.

The Broncos released an NFL statement saying Peterson will be suspended without pay for the first four games of 2007 starting Aug. 31. The statement said Peterson had violated the policy on anabolic steroids and related substances but didn't specify what he had done.

Peterson will be able to join the Broncos for training camp but won't be able to return to the active roster until Oct. 1 after the Broncos play the Indianapolis Colts.

He was cut by the Green Bay Packers in September. Peterson played in Green Bay for Jim Bates, Denver's new assistant head coach in charge of defense, and was signed to add depth to the Broncos' defensive line to replace Courtney Brown, who had to undergo a left-knee operation five weeks into the season.

Green Bay picked Peterson in the third-round of the 2003 draft.

Peterson went to Ohio State and spent his first three seasons with the Packers. Last year Green Bay released him in training camp, and he signed in the middle of the 2006 season with Denver, playing three games for the Broncos. Denver used its first two draft picks this year on defensive ends, so there's a good chance Peterson won't make the roster anyway. If the Broncos cut him, he'll have to sign with a new team before he can begin serving his four-game suspension.

Didn't he set all kinds of weight lifting records at Ohio State?

Yes he did. There's nothing more pathetic than a steroid junkie who still sucks.

Wonder why it never worked out for him in Green Bay? Think it was the three coordinators in three years thingie?

I'll give you a hint. The GM traded away a 4th round pick to move up in the 3rd round to get Peterson. :bang: :bang: :bang:

Well, at least he atoned for it by having a fantastic 3rd round draft in 2004.
