Packers contemplate a player-coach

Front-office candidate:Rob Davis, the Packers' long snapper since mid-1997, is a candidate to replace George Koonce as director of player development.

A source said the Packers were mulling the idea of having Davis operate as both a player and executive this year. Davis, who will be 39 in December, signed a one-year, $866,240 contract in January.

And really...how busy could a long snapper specialist really be?? (I mean, yeah, compared to Aaron Rodgers, he's got a lot to do, but still...)

Does the collective bargaining agreement allow a dude to be both worker and management? If so, this is a great idea. The job of Player Development is to assist players and their families with money mangement, continuing education, and overall personal growth issues. It's one of the few management jobs that could be done by an active player without causing a locker room problem.

Smart move. And it gives Davis something to do with all that friggin spare time.
