Even the "Evil" Simon could not say anything negative about her!

I think he realized if he downplayed her talent, the audience would have tarred-and-feathered him.

You can think that, but did you hear what he said when he was no longer in front of the audience?

MJ,

I did cut off the last part because I rarely hear Simon give compliments to contestants.

It seems like he was genuinely impressed by Connie.

I am still uncertain whether Simon has a naturally cynical, rough demeanor or whether he is encouraged to play the "Mean Guy" role by his producers.

Have you an opinion on this?

Every drama needs a villain right?

He is encouraged to play the "Mean Guy" role by his producers. But really tho, what person could not have liked that girl.

Not bad, not bad at all.

Simon plays his role excellent. Just about all these people need to be sent home and he is just being brutally honest. If it was all sappy, ass kissing judges the show would never have blown up like it has.

I actually don't watch enough AI to have an opinion on his cynicism, but Mad's got a point. If they were all sweet and loving to all the contestants, firstly how would they eliminate anyone, and secondly, some people just need to hear in no uncertain terms that they don't have what it takes. At any rate, they had him backstage after and he said that she was pitch perfect.

Bingo. That's good TV, I guess. I've never watched an episode, just seen the comments that make the news shows...

That show probably succeeds because there are a hell of a lot of people who like to hear others criticized brutally.
