First look: Fans will notice changes at Lambeau

Call it Lambeau Field's summer of change.

Fans heading to Saturday night's game with the Seattle Seahawks — the first home game of the preseason — will notice a lot of changes both inside and outside the stadium. In this 50th anniversary season for the home of the Green Bay Packers and the fifth season since a massive renovation project at Lambeau, the Press-Gazette offers a look at the changes in store for Packers fans who may think they've seen it all.

Just getting to the stadium should be easier for motorists who use Lombardi Avenue. A $3 million project to widen the road from four lanes to six between Ridge Road and U.S. 41 is complete.

A 2½-foot-high concrete barrier rings the west side of the stadium and you'll find new brick planters and pillars. All are part of the team's efforts to meet security standards.

Once inside, a new turf-rebuilding project gets its first real test when the Packers and Seahawks take the field. "It all seems to fit in," said Sarah Utley of Los Angeles, who was visiting the stadium this week with her father, Bill Utley of Sturgeon Bay.

For those more interested in the action on the field, the Packers continue their review of who will make the team when the regular season begins Sunday, Sept. 9. In Saturday's sports section we'll take a look at the five keys areas to watch as the Packers' roster begins to take shape.

BTW, that new wall with the planters and stuff is looking really, really cool!
