The Steelers had a preseason game under their belt to make corrections and solidify things while the Packers were playing their first game. Despite the disadvantage, our first team offense and defense matched up evenly against Pittsburgh and our depth won the game for us. Most peoples biggest worry going into the Steeler game was the first string offense. While the Pittsburgh game was good overall, the Packers did nothing to alieve our biggest concern.

This week, Mike Holmgren's Seahawks come to town. The Packers practice every day against a 4-3 defense and during the regular season they play fourteen of sixteen games against that defense. Our number one offense has played poorly in nine of the last nine preseason games. If they show improvement tonight, I think it shows a big step forward for this team.

Tonights game, or at least the first half, is all about the number one offense because they have the most to prove. ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

"Another one to watch is quarterback David Greene, who will get his first playing time of the exhibition season. Greene, a third-year pro, is trying to keep his place on the roster as the No. 3 signal-caller behind Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace."

"Holmgren was asked about the play of second-year receiver Ben Obomanu, who shined against San Diego.

"If he continues to do what he's doing, I would say his chances are very good," Holmgren said of Obomanu making the final roster.

Obomanu got a chance to return punts against the Chargers and ran one back 22 yards, but Holmgren said he expects receiver Nate Burleson will end up being both the punt returner and the kickoff returner when the season starts."

Seahawks Camp | Day 19 highlights

Top offensive play: The receivers and quarterbacks had a good practice, making several highlight plays. The best was Seneca Wallace to Joe Fernandez in a one-on-one drill in the morning practice. Fernandez continued his strong performance in camp with a one-handed catch against the defense of cornerback Josh Wilson. Even the people in the corporate tent cheered and clapped.

Top defensive play: Rookie defensive end Nu'u Tafisi stuffed a run to the outside by RB A.J. Harris in drills featuring the third-team offense and defense. The star on defense, though, was CB Marcus Trufant, who batted down consecutive passes and stripped the ball away from WR Jordan Kent.

A little scuffling: Some pushing and pointing broke out during the morning practice involving players from the No. 1 defense and No. 1 offense. "Man, I was kind of getting offended why no one was getting in a fight," RB Shaun Alexander joked. "I was like, I'm going to have to jump back there and throw some blows, I guess ... It's needed to have intensity. Guys get tired of seeing each other, and guys get tired of blocking the same people."

Offensive starters RB Shaun Alexander, FB Mack Strong, WR Bobby Engram, TE Marcus Pollard and OL Chris Gray will play more than they did in Sunday's game in San Diego, but probably not much beyond the first quarter.

Third-string quarterback David Greene probably will play most of the second half.

Tackles Sean Locklear (knee) and Walter Jones (shoulder) won't travel. LB Leroy Hill, DB Jordan Babineaux (knee), TE Will Heller (ankle), WR Courtney Taylor (knee) and TE Leonard Stephens (ankle) also will remain behind.

Rookie lineman Mansfield Wrotto left the practice field on Thursday after being poked in the eye.

Hairy situation: Skin is in for hairstyles. Marcus Trufant cut off the braids he has been growing for a number of years and went to a close-cropped cut, Marcus Tubbs is now sporting a Mohawk, and backup quarterback Erik Meyer decided to shear his hair down.

I'm thinking about buying a new name for 89 jersey and changing it to a Jones one..Either that, or just putting my last name on it so it doesn't become obsolete..

Alexander with a gain of 2 yards behind the right side of the line. Nick Barnett with the stop. Defensive line looks like they are winning in the trenches.

Johnny Jolly and Corey Williams were the DTs on the play on 2nd down.

3rd and 8, pass incomplete (bad pass), nearly intercepted by Al Harris. Would have been a touch down had Wallace made a better pass.

It worries me that we are blowing vanilla coverages. My guess would be is they are keeping the safeties back in two-man deep zone allowing them to come up and make the plays at the line. The CBs are in man I am sure pressing at the line. LBs will probably float around and man-up as necessary.

Blackmon with a big time return. Fast mother fudger from the sounds of it. An 82 yard return. 3 flags are down. He was caught up and shoved out of bounds by Michael Boulware. Consequently, Boulware horsecollared him and got called for 15 yards. He just locked up his roster spot. Kudos to the Packers for not holding on the play.

Jackson with a big time run in the red zone. Gain of six. Tackled by Peterson on the one. Great push by Spitz. Jackson had a spectacular reading play and cut back.

Jackson scores on a one yard run. Great push by Wells and Colledge at the push. Touchdown in the red zone!!!

I am the most impressed that we didn't get flagged on the big return.

In a game like tonight, these guys are trying extra hard on special teams (both teams) because they're trying to lock up a roster spot. I am very, very, very happy with that return considering the only penalty was for a dirty tackle by a safety.

Boulware must have taken a hell of an angle because the knock on him since he came outta college is that he is too slow to be an NFL safety after being an LB in college. Blackmon seems more quick than fast to me. That's ok though, because Hester is more quick than fast in my opinion as well. For comparison sake, Ginn is more fast than quick.

Morris gets the handoff, runs right for a yard or two. Kampman beat his man inside and stuffed the running play for a yard and a half.

Wallace is drilled by a blitz from AJ Hawk. He beat the block by Leonard Weaver, and sacked him for a 6 yard loss. This wasn't a delay blitz, it was a bull/speed rush.

3rd and 13, Wallace hands off to Morris, drilled in the backfield for a loss of three by Jenkins. He dominated his man and quickly made the stop. Play of the night.

4th and 16, what a drive by the defense. Nearly blocked by Spencer Havner. 52 yard punt, 17 yard return by Will Blackmon. Damn fine day by Mr. Blackmon. He has locked up his job.

Wallace tosses deep to Branch who is matched up by Franky Walker. Flagged for pass interefence on the 41 yard line.

Announcers feel that Walker had great coverage and the call was Balogna.

Morris with the handoff, bounces left, taken down on the 33 yard line. Barnett with the stop. Poppinga attacked line of scrimmage and Morris was already around the corner.

Leonard Weaver takes the 2nd and 1 to get the first down. Weaver is evidentally in competition to beat out Mack Brown so the sack by Hawk and the destruction by Jenkins appear more legit.

2nd and 10, Morris slips by a defender. Great penetration by Jenkins. Tackle by Barnett and Bush. Jenkins gambled going outside but the man went inside. He still had a great jump.

Wallace sacked on 3rd down, Kabeer with the sack, Barnett with the recovery. Barnett ran it back 61 yards for a touch down. Jesus christ, this defense is ridiculous. KGB seems to be playing quick on 3rd downs. 23-3 Packers.

Great speed by the packers defense.

Crosby goes to kick the PAT. False start on #70. Crosby converts kick from the 7 (25 yard field goal).

YOu're damn right. This is a tough team. The redzone effectiveness is all about the run game. If you can run the ball when teams know it's coming, you can do anythign you want in the redzone. It starts with teh Oline. That was our biggest problem for the last two years.

In the I, Morris gets a big run to the 40. Jesus H. Penalty marker down for holding from Chris Spencer on Justin Harrell. He appeared to beat him without a hold anyway, though.

First and 20 at the 10 yard line now. Backs are split. Wallace is back pedaling. Pass to Marcus Pollard over the middle. Incomplete. Broken up by Nick Barnett. Great coverage by Barnett!!!

2nd and 20 out of the I, swing pass to Deon Branch forced out of bounds by Walker at the 17. Walker gave a good cushion of space but it looked like a smart move.

3rd and 13 for Seattle. Blitz is on by Bigby chasing Wallace into a bad throw. Almost intentional grounding. Great blitz. 4th down.

James Jones back to receive the punt. 3rd 3 and out forced by the Pack tonight.

Kick shanked. Goes out of bounds at Packer 43 yard line.

Average to good return by Clowney. The turf looks most excellent..

I formation. Hand off to Jackson. Crosses the 30, a gain of 2-3. Russell Davis with the tackle. Daryl Tapp with the disruption in the trenches.

Juice Coston is playing left tackle. That to me shows that they are trying to train all the OL a variety of positions. That seems to be a good thing.

Bubba Franks with another reception covered by Deion Grant and Peterson. Powerful moves. First down.

Bubba has 4 catches for 30 yards right now.

1st and 10 on the 40. BJack with a carry to the left side of the line. Nothing open. He gets about 2.5 yards. Spitz missed a backside cut on the nose tackle who had a part in the tackle.

Jackson runs right, breaks a tackle, and gains 5 yards. He is brought down by Peterson. Wells has a great block on Tatupu. Very nice job by Wells.

3rd and 3, if they keep doing this they'll be a good team all year. Noah Herron in the game. Slot left and slot right. Rainbow pass to with a spectacular grab by James Jones over Marcus Trufant. He didn't get both feet in, though. Poop. Announcers are stroking James Jones saying he looks amazing so far and is going to be a good player.

M3 threw the flag and is challenging the call of if he had two feet in.

Rodgers passes to Jackson, joggles the ball, drops it at the Seattle 15 yard line.

Packers are 4 of 6 on third down so far today.

Ruvell Martin in the game wide right. Herron in motion now. Leaping grab Ruvell Martin. First and goal on the 7!

Ballhawk, your boy made a play on his first snap tonight. Damn!

Retail Guy and Pack Nut, they're moving the ball as well as can be in the red zone. The offense looks great.

Rodgers with a lone back. A sensational catch by James Jones for a touchdown with great coverage by 2nd year man outta Miami Kelly Jenning. Rodgers fired a dart a foot off the ground with a hell of a great grab by Jones.

Summary:

Defense literally dominated the first team offense of seattle. The secondary looked kind of iffy in my opinion, but they didn't give anything up. The linebackers and defensive line looked downright 1996 ish. Hawk blew up a blocker for a Sack. Kampman has made many great stops at the line. Jenkins has penetrated just about every snap and has several TFL and a sack. KGB forced the fumble that Barnett scooped up. Harrell has held the point OK. Johnny Jolly and Corey Williams started tonight.

Offense looked pretty good. The offensive line looks great, even in the red zone. Brandon Jackson has average about 5 yards/carry. Rodgers looks great other than a botched snap. James Jones and Bubba Franks are the skill players of the night on O so far.

Special Teams: Will Blackmon has over 100 general purpose return yards in 3 returns alone. He has locked up his spot, big time. He isn't the fastest player, but he is quick as a cat. He will be a damn good returner.

Pre season or not, this is incredibly encouraging. I can see why TT thinks the team had as good as players already in the fold versus what was available in FA. I still think TE needs some work but the RB play has been solid with Jackson and as long as Shitenheimer is coaching the secondary we're screwed with high possibilities of breakdowns for long gains each game.

Short of Seattle sitting their two starting tackles and Hasselbeck, is the rest of the team normal starters? If so this is pretty impressive. If not then, I chalk it up as encouraging but tempered at that.

Harrell doesn't look good. We do have three other DT's who are good though.

One thing I will say is that I have not heard Greg Jennings name once. That is kind of concerning, but I definitely feel like they are having Favre look at his 1st and 2nd options and then go to his TEs.

With Jennings last in the QB reads, JJ is naturally going to get more looks this time of year, though.

Hopefully Bigby can supplant Manual in the secondary. I'd like to see him start one of these games to see what he can do against first string players.

We kind of saw him play against starters last week, and he was awful, remember us calling for his head all week? If he can learn to be a sure open field tackler, and can show strides in his coverage and reading of defenses he could be a good find.

I don't think he played all that bad. His mistakes just led to big time plays. He needs to work on his tackling. His instincts and speed appear to be there.

What is nice is they will have two effective blizters with Collins and Bigby. Having a safety that can blitz well will allow them to get very creative due to the speed of their linebackers. Hawk and Barnett are 3 down players so they could really do a lot of creative blitzing.

I agree. That could be a good thing if they use it.

I'd like to see MM name the starting SS on Monday. The secondary needs to gel to prevent these 50+ yard receptions! Give the starting 4 a couple of weeks to get it figured out before the dirty birds come to town.

It seemed that way. I would need the coaches tapes from the end zone to determine that. It's too tough to see the reads without an overhead cam.

Jennings was quite, but I agree with Partial AGAIN. Wait until the reg season when teams roll coverage to the strong side and Jennings gets one on one's. Favre WILL take advantage of it and Jennings is capable of making things happen. I'm perfectly OK with a slow preseason. Jennings is going to make his living in the reg season.

That 50+ to Burleson wasn't really the secondaries fult. Barnett was the idiot who came in and layed on a shot that knocked Collins down when he was trying to make a tackle. I fault Barnett for that play.

One thing that should be noted is that Brandon Jackson did not have a single carry less than one yard. He primarily ran in the red zone and his average is about 5 yds/carry.

That is not even average, that is downright spectacular.

I really like Rich Gannon as an anouncer. He has some of my beleifs.

I have some things that I say a lot about defense and people here know I've said it. That is if you hit a QB, a WR or a RB it makes them less effective for the next few plays. If you do it consistantly, you turn them into your bitch and you dominate the game. Gannon believes that also, so I am a big fan now :)

Defense is about hitting and hurting the opponent. We have guys who hurt QB's, WR's and RB's. This is going to be a very fun year.

I'm going to stand by Jennings until the regular season. They just had an artical out that said he was the X WR and that the X is the last read on all passes. It doesn't sound like it's his fault.

It's been funny watching the viewers go up from 91 when I first checked out a minute ago to a 107 right now. Good find OS.

Rodgers looked really good on that TD pass. He looked left, almost let it go but pumped it and held on. He then looked right, and unloaded as soon as he saw his open guy. TD!!

He looked comfortable and confident going through his reads.

TD Carlyle Holiday.

I'll be honest, he's probably done better then Ruvell in the preseason, thus far.

Well, I gotta go back to this Bar Mitzvah party. I'm at a Ritz-Carlton. Totally not fun.
