NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Vikings have acquired quarterback Kelly Holcomb from the Philadephia Eagles in exchange for a sixth round pick in 2009.

The veteran backup quarterback joined the Eagles this year but saw very limited action in the preseason as the team was crowded at the position with A.J. Feely and second-round pick Kevin Kolb backing up Donovan McNabb.

The Vikings wanted a veteran back up for Tavarias Jackson as Brooks Bollinger has been disappointing in the preseaon with a 30.4 passer rating.

Holcomb spent the 2006 season in Buffalo, but did not appear in any games. In 2005, he started eight games for the Bills and passed for 1,509 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Actually a pretty good move by the Vikes. If TJ has a bad game or two they have the option now to sit him and let him regain his confidence while starting Holcomb who although isn't great, has had his moments for other teams.

What about Brooks?

Clearly not a vote of confidence in Jackson.

The Vikings appear to be heading for some growing pains this season. However, KH was better than anyone else they had at #2.

If they can get a 6th rounder for him (career backup who isn't all that good at that role) it shouldn't too tough to get a similar pick for our #2 kicker. The Giants were hoping to convince Green Bay they weren't desperate, but they need to stop trying to kick field goals in preseason games if they really hope to do that.

Leaper:

Have you got any scuttlebutt on the Rayner/Giants issue or other trades involving a kicker?

yea it`s on the trademarket thread. As it stands right now, the Giants say they are comfortable with their kicker right now. Which means we`ll wait for you to cut one.
