It was an ugly game hard fought game between the Packers and a legitimately good team in the Eagles. Both teams made a lot of mistakes in places, and both teams played well in places.

Good teams win ugly games, we're not necessarily a good team yet, but this is a good start. When the Bears were building their superbowl team, they won a lot of games like this too. No matter how bad we played or how unlikely this outcome was, we won and there's absolutely no shame in that.

It's always good to get a win, but McCarthy and the team can't possibly rest on their laurels after this one. They have a lot of things to fix after this game. But watching those mistakes on film is going to be a lot more fun knowing the outcome.

No need to call them idiots, Leaper. I mean Rayner was solid at the beginning of last season, too remember.

The point was that he faltered at the end and was clearly outkicked by Crosby in preseason, even though Rayner still did well.

You are an idiot if you suggested we should keep Rayner over Crosby after camp...and should be rightly called on it. Crosby has the potential to be an elite kicker for years. I don't think that can be said of Rayner.

Well, I didn't really care either way, I thought both kickers were pretty close throughout camp, but I'm happy with what I see so far, that's for sure! But I'm just saying that Rayner also had a strong start to last season.

Glad to see a W today, but our OL should be ripped a new one after the way they played today.

Jolly definitely gets a nod for his performance on defense. He was big today, batted down passes and made the play on the 4 yard loss after the Packers' last turnover when the Eagles practically got the ball in field goal range.

Same thing here in Detroit, Willard. It was right after the Pack recovered (another) muffed Philly punt - I thought it was with 59 seconds left, but whatever. Got the announcement that we'd be switched to Detroit-Oakland, and I had a fit. Who gives a damn about the kickoff of that game? Even a Detroit fan would rather see the end of the Packer game, doncha think?

It was nerve wracking. But the Packers won! Yeah baby! Yes the o-line sucked on running plays, and Jon Ryan - WTF in the second half? - but it was a win.

It's been awhile since the Pack didn't lay an egg in the opener. I am very happy. However, doesn't Mason Crosby look a whole lot like that one midget actor dude in Hollywood? Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Johnny Jolly rocked. The whole d-line rocked (okay, KGB still gets pushed wide a lot). Barnett played well, Hawk and Poppinga were quiet. Jarret Bush was very good most of the time, Bigby was good most of the time.

How bad is Harris's injury? Any word?

Congratulations, Packer nation on the big first day win!

The only player I am really ticked off at is Atari Bigby for laying that vicious DB hit on Al Harris' ulnar nerve. Sharper used to pull that stunt in his first couple of seasons--he'd try to lay on a big DB hit on a receiver, lower his head and take a bad angle, and subsequently knock his own defensive teammate off the ball carrier.

Mason Crosby was money. But I don't get Leaper's name-calling. Rayner had a bit more experience and had done nothing to lose his job. I would have been disappointed if they'd kept Rayner but not outraged. Let's all simply agree that Mason made tough pressure kicks from distance and we are happy to have Marcol and Stenerud's heir and the next holder of the NFL's record long field goal in the fold.

Brett. You are amazing. Every one of your teammates better do some soul searching about how they want to play the game when they have the privilege of strapping it on with you every week.

Baddest Bear--well, at least your team tried really hard and that counts for a lot in life in most instances, but in your case the Bears still suck.

Go Pack!
