Bears close to signing new punter

The Bears are close to signing a new punter for Sunday's game with the Kansas City Chiefs. The club brought in veteran Dirk Johnson, as the Sun-Times suggested it might, and he was at Halas Hall Saturday morning. Johnson is a veteran who was released in the final cutdown by the Philadelphia Eagles. While in Philly he worked with special teams coordinator Dave Toub.

Johnson's services look like they will be needed with Brad Maynard suffering from a groin injury sustained Friday. Maynard is questionable on the injury report.

The Bears will have to place a player on waivers to make room for Johnson. Candidates include fullback Lousaka Polite, cornerback Ade Jimoh and wide receiver Mike Hass. Because it is this late in the week, any player let go will have already received a check.

More on this development as news comes.
If they cut Hass I hope the Packers sign him

Isn't Haas the Oregon guy OPF likes?

He made some great catches in preseason. My friend at work (bears fan) has high hope that Hass could develop into a good WR. So if they let him go and we snatch him that would piss off a lot of bears fans.

Haas is a cagey player; he'd be a decent pickup. A solid #4/#5 WR IMO

Better than Francies, without a doubt.
