View Full Version : Predict the score: Bears at Packers

I could not find a thread for this!

The Bears are wounded and therefore dangerous. Packers are 0-3 in the last 3 games at Lambeau versus Bears. That should change come sunday night. I want a win but I've got a somewhat bad feeling for this one; the season is virtually on the line for da Bears yet I say:

Packers 27 Bears 20

I just listened to the Favre/McCarthy press conferences. Neither thinks they should be crowned anything. Favre said they havn't proven anything or gotten anywhere yet. When asked if he was happy to come back he said something like "Ask me at the end of the year. We havn't done anything yet"

With Brett focused like he has been this year, I can't picture this team losing many games. Brett had to experience a little bad for him to appreciate the good. He's got his eye on the prize. I don't see this team faltering until they get content. There is absolutely no sign of that yet. Until I see lazy, content attitudes, I'm going to predict W's (no matter who the opponent)

Packers 27 - Bears 17

Scoring breakdown -

Hester returns the opening kickoff for a TD, putting GB in the hole 0-7.

Favre responds with a TD strike to Driver. 7-7

Defensive score for the Pack. 14-7 Pack.

In their best offensive series of the game, Kybrirex Ortgriesman leads the Bears all the way down to the Green Bay 39 yard line which results in a successful 56 yard field goal, because nobody ever misses FGs against the Pack. 14-10 Pack.

Crosby drills a field goal. 17-10 Pack.

Bears go three and out.

Packers respond with a sustained drive that ends with a Donald Lee fumble at the 1 yard line that is returned 99 yards for a Bears TD. Tie game - 17-17.

McCarthy realizes that offense is not needed to win the game, and implements the underutilized "Quick Kick" strategy, electing to punt on first down every time the offense has the ball.

Green Bay finishes the scoring with 5 safeties to seal the 27-17 victory.

This game is about attitude. We all saw what happened at the end of last year when a more talented Bears team didn't come out focused and mean. Green Bay has to come out looking for a knockout in the 1st quarter. You put Chicago down 14-0 in Lambeau and they might start looking for a hole to hide in. You let them stick around and stay in the game, and the Packers will have to scratch and claw for the win.

McCarthy clearly recognizes this and is being very tough at practice. I think that is a good sign.

I expect Favre to continue to roll as the OL provides another strong effort in pass blocking. As long as we can get Ryan to punt the ball out of bounds and avoid Hester at all costs, Green Bay should win this one convincingly...but I don't expect the Bears to roll over easily.

Favre, Packers dominate Bears in night matchups
By BOB McGINN

Green Bay - The Brett Favre-quarterbacked Green Bay Packers have never been more overwhelming than in night games against the Chicago Bears.

Seven times Favre has led Green Bay against Chicago after dark, five on Monday and two on Sunday. Each time, the game essentially was over by halftime, leaving announcers filling air and viewers clicking to other programming.

The Packers' average first-quarter lead was 7.7 points, their average halftime lead 14.3 and their average margin of victory was 16.1. In fourth-quarter garbage time, the Bears broke even, 53-53.

The Packers just need to keep it close in the first half and not make any mistakes. The Bears have had very good first half defense, and in the 2nd half they have completely fallen off with fatigue, frustration or both.

I expect the first half to be close, within three (Bears advantage). I expect the Packers to win the second half by 14 and walk away with a ten point win!!

I'd like to see our run game open up in the 2nd half a little, but if it doesn't, I'll still be OK with the win.

Injury bug concerns Packers secondary
Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- At least on paper, the Green Bay Packers' starting secondary should be intact for the Sunday night game against division rival Chicago.

The three defensive backs who appear on the injury report were listed Friday as being probable for the game. Whether the Packers are at full strength on the back end of the defense as they try to improve to 5-0 remains to be seen, however.

Safety Nick Collins said after practice Friday that he won't know his playing status until shortly before kickoff at Lambeau Field.

"It's going to be a game-time decision," Collins said. "It depends on how I feel and how the medical staff feels."

Collins suffered a bruised knee in the Packers' win at Minnesota last Sunday. The injury limited his participation in practice the last three days. When asked whether he's still enduring soreness in the knee, Collins said, "Right now, I'm pretty mobile. That's all I can say about it."

Collins is preparing to play against the Bears but acknowledged that being held out of the game is a possibility.

"They might play it safe. Maybe not," he said. "Like I said, it's going to be a game-time decision."

Rookie Aaron Rouse split reps with Collins in practice this week and could make his first NFL start.

"He's been taking a lot of reps this week," Collins said. "You never know, he might get this opportunity to start this week or play this week. You never know."

Cornerbacks Al Harris and Charles Woodson, meanwhile, have no doubts that they'll be on the field Sunday.

Their practice work was limited all three days as they continue to cope with an assortment of injuries that stem back to the start of the season.

Harris has been bothered by back spasms. Speculation mounted after the last game, which he had to leave briefly in the second half because of a hand injury, that Harris would need to miss a game for the first time in his career to allow the back a chance to heal.

On Friday, Harris repeatedly said, "My thing isn't an issue."

Coach Mike McCarthy said Harris appeared to function better the last two days in practice than he did at the same juncture last week.

"He's got two good days under his belt, so I think he'll be fine," McCarthy said.

Woodson has been playing with a hip flexor and a foot injury in recent weeks. He's confident that Green Bay's banged-up secondary will be ready to go at game time.

"The confidence comes from it being Sunday," Woodson said. "You worry about the bumps and the bruises during the week. On Sunday, you go out there and you play football. Everybody in the league at this point is nicked up in some type of way. So, you just go out there and you play your game. You've got to get it done."

The Packers lost backup cornerback Will Blackmon for an indefinite period earlier this week. Blackmon suffered a broken right foot in practice Wednesday.

McCarthy said Blackmon isn't a candidate, for now, to be put on season-ending injured reserve. "We're going to give it two weeks and see how it progresses," McCarthy said. "The biggest thing is to get the swelling out and see where the pain tolerance (is)."

Blackmon injured the same foot in similar fashion during minicamp as a rookie in May 2006 and was out for nearly five months. He played in just four games last year before suffering a season-ending ribs injury.

"Him having the opportunity to go through this in the past, we're hopeful that maybe this is something he can deal with and play," McCarthy said. "Two weeks will give us more information."

The Packers rarely use a formation with six defensive backs, but McCarthy is comfortable with Frank Walker or Tramon Williams filling the dime role with Blackmon out.

Also on defense, tackle Colin Cole returned for a full practice after being held out Thursday because of complications from a mild concussion sustained Wednesday. Cole is probable for the game.

Receiver Greg Jennings and center Scott Wells were removed from the injury report and will play Sunday.

Running back Brandon Jackson is questionable to play Sunday. He's been bothered by a strained shin, which kept him out of the last game. He had limited work in practice Friday.

Fellow rookie DeShawn Wynn is in line to make his second straight start at running back.

Donald Driver has a reception in 84 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in team history (103, Sterling Sharpe).

In fourth-quarter garbage time, the Bears broke even, 53-53.[/quote]

I cannot hardly wait for this game.

I predict that it will be hard fought and close but today I feel that Favre is on a roll and responding to the added responsibility he accepted. His knowledge of defensive allignments and the audible has changed him to a more focused QB.

The team with the best QB should win (who is dat), and certainly so if our defense picks it up more and stops the Bear running game and puts pressure on Griese.

MM has to game plan to factor out Devin Hester.

I feel that it is time for our D to put points up on the board in an inspired overall team effort that dims Bears hopes this season further.

I read something today that says that the Higher Power was on our side (due to certain circumstances beyond the Packer players control) so too bad for da Bears.

GO PACKERS !

Factor out Hester ? OK, maybe don't kick to him, that gives Da BEARS good feild position. But how do you factor out Hester on ofence ? He will get the ball in his hands alot more tonight, you can not factor that out ! Think this and wish that, fact is Da BEARS are coming to your house to kick some pack butt ! Go tell farve to get his boys ready, cos there is gonna be a fight, I mean a football game tonight ! :duel:

He's an excellent special teamer, BUT........

Devin Hester - 2007 - Receiving Statistics

3 yards - total through 4 games (I thought that might have been a typo)
.8 yards per game
0 TD's

You guys should have signed Robert Fergeson.

You are correct, that is why Lovie stated this week that Hester and Olson will play a much larger role in Da BEARS ofence this Sunday night. You put the ball in Hester's hands say, ... 20 to 26 times, good things will happen !

I don't know why people think like this. Just because he's a great special teamer, it doesn't mean it will translate to WR. Tommie Harris could put up better numbers at WR. Why doesn't Lovie try that?

That NFL channel guy Baldinger(NFL Playbook) said it best, What's the difference if you kick the ball to him or pass the ball to him or hand the ball off to him, Hester with the ball in his hands is a dangerous man ! They put the ball in Hesters hands 20 - 25 times a game, Da BEARS win !

Well I guess you have to hang your hat on somebody, and Hester is about the least laughable option.

Just win baby.

Damnit, why do I have a bad feeling about this game. It's the Bears; victory is paramount.

For donkey ears? But not Bear chops. Partly true though; Packers looked good in first half up 17-7 even with 2 JJ fumbles.

Then HC went "preserve the win" - go mummify that notion, HC. To become champs; you gotta beat the champs. Packers did not beat the Bears - so who are the Packers?
