View Full Version : Predict the Madden!

The Leaper

Yes, I know that the score of the actual game is more meaningful, but I will be tracking another score on Sunday Night...

The number of times John Madden says "Favre", "Brett", or "Brett Favre" during the live game broadcast.

This has the likelihood to go down as the single greatest name dropping event in Madden's history...which is filled with such exploits, usually surrounding Emmitt Smith on Thanksgiving or any Steve Young running play.

My guess is 50.

It is too bad we don't have Summerall anymore...so we could also keep tabs on how many wrong player identifications he had during the broadcast.

My guess is 50.
Is that just by halftime and does it count when he just says "Brett" or "#4" or "mancrush"?

PlantPage55

64 Brett Favre references (Brett, Brett Favre, #4, etc...)

LOL...too funny!!!

I'll guess 82

Who's going to keep track??

The Leaper
10-04-2007, 10:41 AM
I'm going to keep track. I'm only going to count actual references to his name..."Brett", "Favre", or "Brett Favre"...rather than "#4", "Superman", or "First Ballot HOFer". And "Brett Favre" together is ONE reference, not two.

I could wind up on injured reserve next week with a wrist injury as I try to keep up with the tick marks.

Hopefully, Madden's drool won't short out his microphone.

Does anyone have a link to the Madden (Caliendo) clip where he is singing "My Brett Favre's back" the to tune of "My boyfriend's back"?

are you also including pre and post game?

Yes...once Costas sends the action over to Madden and Michaels at around 8:15pm, the counting begins until they sign off. Madden will no doubt come out of the box en fuego and in full Favre-love mode.

You can actually play a drinking game to this

Its simple. Everyone watching the game Sunday must drink everytime Madden says Favres name.

Leaper, I would count when he says "4" because Madden routinely refers to him as that.

Put me down for 145.

I can never ridicule anyone for praising Favre too much..

Madden can compliment Brett Favre as many times as he damn well pleases..

Can't find it, but will this Caliendo snipit suffice?

It's his impression of Jim Rome from a week or two back. Great impression, spot on.

I will predict that Madden will actually wear a Favre jersey Sunday night. If that's true then I feel that every frame of the broadcast with Madden in it should be worth a thousand words.

In which case I'll guess: 17,320

I may try to track #4 separately, but my main count will just revolve around his name.

I'll try to be in the game thread with updates.

I'm going to say at least two "Favres" out of Madden for every offensive play the Packers run, so I'm saying ~120.

You forgot about when Griese's on the field and gets continually compared to Favre...This is gonna be a fun game.

If you include pregame, I think he hits 50 in the first half. I say 175.

Packers average 17 plays for every quarter. Madden has 2.5 Favres for every play. So 42.5 per quarter.
Bears average 13 plays per quarter and Madden has .5 Favre for every play so 6.5 per quarter

That's 197 Favres without considering touchdowns or big plays.

Favre is averaging 3 big plays a game and on big plays Madden has 3 more Favres than a regular play. So that's another 9 Favres.
Favre should put up three passing touchdowns against the Bears. Madden has 5 more Favres for every touchdown. So that's another 15 Favres.

I'm guessing 221 Favres on the button.

We are just talking commentary right?

If he says "Brett Favre was tackled" does that count?

Whenever Madden says his name, it counts. It doesn't matter if it refers to the game or what he ate before the game or his pants falling down by accident on the sidelines.

The play by play is done by Al Michaels...none of Al's references will count, only Madden's. If Madden says "Brett Favre is a great player because Brett knows how to throw a football and Brett knows how to read a defense" then that would be 3 more references added to the count. I'm not counting pronouns here...he or him doesn't count. Fortunately, I'm not sure Madden is familiar with that part of the English language.

I will also count a reference if Madden actually scribbles Brett's name in some format on the screen with his magic finger. I haven't seen that one yet, but maybe he's been saving it for this game.

My count put Madden at 25 references to Favre by name on Monday night...it could've been higher had McCarthy not run the ball on nearly every meaningful play before 2:00 remaining in the second half.

He seemed to be on some medication tonight...not even the glory shot of guys standing knee deep in sauerkraut could get Madden fully revved up.

Looks like Brando won.

Jesus, JC Pitts or whatever the hell his name is said Brett Favre more last week against the Vikes.

I won? YAY! I want to thank my mom and dad for making me...and I want to thank John Madden for being madly in love with Brett Favre.
