Joe Pisarcik! I think I even saw that highlight the same day. I was 12 and was really into the Packers who were having a fun season with James Lofton being a rookie and Terdell Middleton rushing for 1,000 yards. I think they even tied the mighty Vikings that year to go 8-7-1 for the year.

Herm Edwards was the one who scooped up the blown hand-off (to Larry Csonka btw) and raced for the score.

BTW, if you've never seen the Joe Pisarcik to Larry Csonka botched hand-off, here it is from YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=090pEcveMIE
What were they thinking not taking a knee? I guess they didn't it back in the day. Csonka doesn't look like he knew it was a hand-off to him, and Pisarcik seems to get way to close to him. What an awful way to lose a game!

I know I've heard part of their reason for this - the 'slot' system of the draft means taking 2 picks later saves them $$$. What was the reason they didn't want a second first round player? Did they not have cap space to pay two of them?

Ok, I do have a question to start things off in the morning, even though it isn't officially my turn. How did the Vikings obtain their second first round pick in 2003?

HarveyWallbangers
10-25-2007, 11:23 PM
They didn't lose their pick. Their time ran out, and then ended up picking two picks later (I think). I believe Ryan Sims is the other guy that got picked in between. Because they drafted that player in a lower slot, they were able to sign him for less money than they would have had they picked him in their original slot. Those tricky Vikings. With this and poision pill, their front office showed their genius.

Alan Autry was Carlos Brown when he was with Green Bay.

Here is some enlightening info about him.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Autry

http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/BrowCa00.htm

I was a little kid in '76 when Lynn Dickey got hurt and they had to play Carlos Brown. I know they only have 7 rounds today, and Carlos Brown was a 12th rounder in 1975, but can you imagine in today's football if your starting QB went down and you had to put a 7th rounder in? Teams invest a little more than that in QB now. '76 was Lynn Dickey's first year in GB, after coming over as part of the John Hadl to Houston trade. Houston had Pastorini, so Dickey was never going to get to play.

Lynn Dickey's first name is actually Clifford, so it's Clifford Lynn Dickey, proving that his parents really didn't like him very much. Ah, the Hadl trade. Heady days in Green Bay. You want a trade that will get you fired being HC and GM? Try out the John Hadl to Green Bay trade. This is the best article I've ever read on it. Hadl actually sounds like a cool guy.

http://www.journaltimes.com/articles/2004/10/10/local_sports/iq_3146532.txt

Just brutal! Starr was behind the 8 ball for years after that awful trade, and Devine got to shuffle off to Notre Dame and coach none other than Joe Montana! Obviously the Vikings did not learn from the Packers fateful mistake in Oct. '74 because they made their own mark with the Herschel Walker trade. Ouchie! I guess the ultimate lesson there is be careful how much power you give one guy to make personnel decisions, otherwise you might do wacky stuff like move up to draft a punter!

Ok, that wasn't a real Trivia question. I get another try.

The answer is 'The only player to have a Vanier Cup ring, a Grey Cup ring and a Super Bowl ring, as well as torching this poster for a TD so badly that it had the poor sap trying to get his jock turned back around.'

Ok, no one got it, so big hint. There was a Packer CB with the exact same name.

obComment: I just about spit out my beer when they drafted him - it was a couple of years later, but I thought it was the same guy!

Tyrone Williams?

What does former Packer Chris Johnson have tattooed on his leg?

I'm guessing a number......

Two numbers, actually......

I'm sensing a single-digit number.....

4?

The other one.....two digits.

In the teens?

18?

4 and 18?
