I was worried in ther first half about our D. The Dline better start getting more pressure if we are going to have a chance in Dallas cause that huge Oline will ram it down our throats if we can't.

JSOline just reported in their game log:

Ryan Grant looks like he twisted his right ankle but was able to get off the field under his own power. It was the coach's decision that he did not return.

I'm worried about our D

I'm not. The entire second half was basically garbage time for them. Even with the breakdowns by Harris they still ended up winning by 14 points.

007, I agree. It is now put up or shut up time. The next two games will determine if we are as good as some think or if we are not as good as Dallas.

We didn't play well against the run in the first half and our passrush was nonexistent. That D will get us killed in Dallas

Nice win!

No matter how much they say they don't look ahead, it's hard to believe they were completely focused on the Panthers today.

I agree. The offense looked pretty vanilla. They did a poor job extending drives. The defense really wore out.

b bulldog
11-18-2007, 03:21 PM
The D gave up 131 rushing yards and gave up an average of 4.5 per rush. This stat along with a poor passrush is what is concerning and this was from the first series on.

I am not concerned about comparisons to Dallas. I'm really not that concerned about losing to Dallas. I am only concerned about winning the division. Let Dallas be the heralded frontrunner, I just want Green Bay to secure at least a first week bye.

Fugg the accolades and the stats, just keep winning. That's all that really matters in sports anyway...

b bulldog

The division is ours. We's have to have a huge collapse not to take it.

I thought they did a nice job in the 1st half holding Carolina to 3. The second half was bad but they were on the field way too long.

Hard to refute that since they only gave up 3 points but this D will get it handed to them if they play like this the next two weeks. If Smith would have played, it would have bbeen a different game casuse nobody can cover Smith when the QB has 6-8 seconds to throw the ball.

I bet you are an eternal optimist.

Dude, they won??? Carolina padded their rushing stats by staying with the run long after it was time to go to the air, with the sloppy way our deepbacks played in the second half - OK, so it was Al Harris mostly, but they still only gave up 258 yards passing - Fox hurt himself by trying to run the ball so much when he need to score faster. Stop spending so much time worrying about stats maybe?

I think the Packers are better when their front 4 get pressure. I think with a 10 day rest, they'll be a little better than they usually are.

I'm a little worried now with Grant's ankle. Hopefully he takes Thursday off, and is ready for the game in big D.

I think our ST's have an advantage. We've had some of the best Punt and Kick coverage all year and now with Krob, we have a legit return threat. I woudldn't doubt if Tramon takes over for Chuck on punts.

Anyone see the end of regulation 51 yard FG in the Browns-Ravens game to tie. It hit the upright and then bounced on the back, curved part of the upright center column. The refs correctly called in a made attempt.

Then, on the 1st possession, the Browns take it down and win it with another FG. Crazy ending.

No, they aren't world beaters but once again they had a guy behind the last defender and can't get him the ball. The Vikings are much better at wide reciever this year than they were last year. I definately wouldn't call it a position of strength but it isn't their main problem.

yes and the Pack haven't won here for at least a 100 years. it will take a perfect game to win on that thursday. it can be done but i wouldn't go around trash talking and/or making bets on it. there's only one thing i'd like better than beating them in 10 days and that's beating them in the playoffs. let's think positive but be quiet about it. let's not irk the football gods.

I posted this a little earlier this week before the Panther game regarding this week being a historical trap game for the franchise:

>>I just read in USA Today's Sports Weekly that the last two times the Packers were 8-1 through week 10 in both 2002 and 1996, they lost in weeks 11 and 12. So, I went to trusty Pro-Football-Reference.com and sure enough, here it is...

2002 (8-1, having lost only at New Orleans in Week 2)

11 | at Minnesota Vikings | L | 21-31 |
12 | at Tampa Bay Buccaneers | L | 7-21 |

1996 (8-1, having only lost at Minnesota in Week 4)

11 | at Kansas City Chiefs | L | 20-27 |
12 | at Dallas Cowboys | L | 6-21 |

Going back even further...the last time the Packers were 8-1 was 1963, and they lost at Chicago in Week 10, but remember it was a 14 Week Season and no bye week.

The last time they went undefeated going into Week 11 was the 1962 Season when they started 10-0, and finally lost at Detroit in Week 11 (Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 1962).

So, you thought this was just another week on the schedule? A win to go to 9-1 this week and the Packers have the best start in team history since 1962. If they can beat Carolina this week and win at Detroit on Thanksgiving, they can tie the 1962 team's 10-1 start, and avenge the Thanksgiving loss to Detroit in 1962 in the process! Go Pack Go!<<

Well, they broke the 8-1 barrier that two previous Packer teams could not. This is the Packers best start to a season since 1962. It's not time to celebrate anything, but damn, who'da thunk going into the season that we'd be talking about this team and the 1962 team in the same breath? Even the two Packer Super Bowl teams in the 60's, or the two in the 90's didn't get off to this good of a start. I'm not saying this team is as good as those teams, but they're fun this year.

If we can pull a NYG on Detroit on Thanksgiving, we can match the exact record of the 1962 team, and will have beaten Detroit on the road, unlike the '62 Packers!

This might sound unLombardi-like, but I didn't care that much whether they won today. I figured if they had their screw-up game today, no big deal. They can still earn homefield by winning the next two.

I think the most important thing for this game is no major injuries.

Just thought I'd post this postgame comment from Mike McCarthy for all the whiners:

From the JSO article.....

"We need to do a better job of finishing games," McCarthy said. "We're up 28-3, we can learn from that experience and put the opponent away. There was some sloppiness in our play down the stretch that we can learn from."

That's why I think M3 is a much better motivator and coach than Shermy ever was: M3 never makes excuses for sloppy play or even his own curious playcalls while Shermy would never even admit there was a problem, all he'd say was "we'll get it fixed."

Bigby is better than Collins.

We may have seen our future safety tandem today: Bigby at Strong, Rouse as weak. Bigby is kickass in run support but terrible in coverage. Rouse looked pretty good, almost had a pick in the endzone and knocked down another pass in the flat that could have been taken to the house had he picked it off. Had to add this: Rouse's size bodes well when trying to contend with tight ends in coverage. Bigby and Collins have already proven they can't cover a TE, hopefully Rouse can.

We have played with two strong safeties on the field long enough.

I never said Collins wasn't any good, I just think Bigby is better, but neither makes a good enough free safety. If either of those guys was good enough to play the free we wouldn't have so many big games by tight ends every week. Rouse did a very good job in the Carolina game and I feel he should be allowed to compete for the free spot, let Collins and Bigby battle it out for the strong.

Because Bigby is a bigger hitter I give him the edge over Collins.

SkinBasket

Because Bigby is a bigger hitter I give him the edge over Collins.

Too bad you gotta catch a guy to hit him. Atari is not a long term solution in this defense unless he learns where to be before he needs to be there, because his slow reactions and even slower feet outweigh his willingness to hit someone. I could see if he were forcing fumbles or making guys drop balls when they go up over the middle because WRs were afraid of him, but that's not happening.

I'm sure he still has the ability to play smarter with experience, but saying he's better than Collins is ignoring a very large, gaping, easily exploited hole in Bigby's game.
