Anyone just kind of forget about Bubba Franks this year? I know he went down with injury which is sad but man has Lee come on strong in his place. I dunno if its the wide receiver sets opening up the seams for the tight ends or what it is? I just remember being at the Vikings game last season and watching Bubba fumble as he was heading into the end zone. Man I was so pissed. I know Bubba was a great threat in the red zone when he was playing but does anyone really care now?

Two tight-end set with Bubba as a blocker is a nice complement. We have not run a two TE set much this season, primarily due to the RB/OL issues. As that is shoring up with the emergence of Grant and the improved OL play, a 2 TE set to roll over opponents when leading in the 4th would be a boon.

I do. Bubba is the better run blocker and would still be a big help in the red zone and short yardage situations. Lee is a very welcome sight because he brings the added dimension to the offense Keith Jackson brought in 1996: the ability to stretch the field and push the ball deep down the middle which is where the Cover 2 defense is the weakest. Bubba would be more suited to the role Mark Chmura played: run blocker/short yardage specialist. Believe it or not, having Bubba back would open up the offense even more, especially in the red zone.

Right now they can barely use a two TE set in short yardage unless they put the inexperienced Krause or one of the young FB's there, but even when they do they are mostly used as decoys. For instance, there was this sweet red zone play they ran against the Vikes where Lee faded left and Favre hit him for the TD: Krause was standing all by himself in the middle of the end zone because when he crossed right in front of Lee all the defenders ignored him and chased after Lee. The play was a play-action pass and it kinda looked like it was specifically designed for Lee, but had Lee been well covered its a question of how comfortable Favre is with the lesser known players like Krause, Kuhn the backup FB or even Hall - he may have ended up just throwing it away, especially if there was pressure. Had the other TE been Bubba I would guess Favre would be quicker to check down to him in the middle. Or, the defenders may have been caught in between: unable to defend either because they would have had to respect borh TE's. So yes, I miss Bubba, I can't wait to see how much more explosive this offense becomes once he returns...

Bubba was having a damn good year before he got injured, he seemed quicker and had his confidence back, yes he had a couple of dropped balls, but he was much more like the Bubba of old. But Lee has played Probowl quality TE. He should make the Probowl. He has caught almost everything thrown to him and he gets open A LOT!!!! He's MUCH quicker than Bubba and to hell with the two tight end sets, I love the five receiver sets, it really spreads defenses out and our oline has done a wonderful job blocking in these situations. This is why we are so much better this year. Last year, MM's hands were tied offensively because 8and 9 had to stay in and block, now, we don't need the extra blockers, and we can bring out all our offensive weapons and Bretts like a kid in a candy store, he's always got two or more guys open almost every play. It's crazy. Brett is having a much better year than the last couple because he actually has people running downfield to throw it to, instead of watching his back blocking for the line. This is an exciting offense to watch, he has more weapons than Brady, and other than Moss, our guys are just as good and we have more depth at receiver. We have five guys who are starter calibur. Not too mention Lee as our TE. We are gonna kick the shit out of Detroit, virtually locking up the North. This season is great. Go Pack.

having bubba back later in the year is going to help a lot more than people think. it will spring the running game more and i think a double TE set will help with 3-4 defenses we will possibly face later. (cowboys and pats-maybe!)
