The refs owed the Pack 10 seconds there at least.

nah, Favre owes the Packers 10 seconds. what the hell was he saving the timeout for? that was one of Favre's worst brain farts ever. The clock management that whole last drive wasn't great.

Good point essox, Moss did what he does from game one. It is alarmimg how open he has been though.

With the Packers up by 8, hopefully they can tack on 7 more with this opening drive of the second half. That forces Detroit to go away from the running game in order to erase a 15 point deficit. I am kind of hoping they stay with the running game myself, it helps waste clock and limits their ability to exploit the inexperience we have in the secondary...

Harlan Huckleby
11-22-2007, 01:18 PM
we need to clean a lot of stuff up in the 2nd half not only to win the game but we are a better team than what we are showing

nah, just keep limping along and get a win. They aren't going to blow out this team today, they are playing OK.

Anybody seriously still think it is smart to have Woodson return punts?

Brett wanted to keep his timeout just in case they didn't score. I am far from a Favre apologist but thAT WAS ON THE REFS.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila left Thursday's game with an ankle injury.

Gbaja-Biamila had his ankle rolled over as he contributed to a sack of Jon Kitna. He walked to the locker room under his own power, and his return is questionable

KGB with an ankle
CW with a toe. On the punt return like all of us were worrying about.

This crew ain't calling PI today. that's OK as long as they stay consistent.

I've wanted to see Tramon williams get reps at CB, but not this way!

yOU CAN'T CHANGE AT THIS POINT OF THE SEASON. Chuck wanted to do it and was exstatic that he's been given the chance to do it. The move should have been made in the preseason but wait a minute, Blackmon is never able to get on the field.

Whatever. What if he had used the timeout, went back for one more pass and got sacked?

Fascinating how even when the refs fuck up its still Brett's fault.

That looked pretty nasty, kind of like when Hawk fell on Larry Johnson's ankle/foot. I'd be surprised if he were back against Dallas and if he is, can he be as explosive on a gimpy ankle.

Packers getting bit by the injury bug today so far. :x

There's 13 seconds left .... tick tick tick and Favre is waving his arms to get the team lined up for a spike. Forget the refs. What sense does this make!? At extreme best, he lines up team and spikes with a few seconds left, if they're lucky, leaving one lousy play.

Whatever. What if he had used the timeout, went back for one more pass and got sacked?

Then what are you upset about? You apparently want a FG, because there is no way they get to the line and spike the ball with more than 5 seconds left on the clock. It would take at least 8 seconds for everyone to get in position and make the spike.

You run a fade pattern or fade stop that won't allow for a sack, obviously. Favre has a clock in his head, and if it isn't there, you throw it out the back of the end zone.

Arguing that you can't take a chance at the end zone if you take a time out is ridiculous to me.

Well, if you don't want a chance to throw in the endzone, then just do what was done. Take one play and kick a field goal. But that is indefensible.

The REFS did not cost the packers jack. Favre should have called timeout immediately and leave two plays.

Thanksgiving games: Packers should feast on Lions

By Clifton Brown - SportingNews

I still don't think the Lions are going to the playoffs.

Give them credit, however, for making their Thanksgiving Day game significantly more intriguing than it usually is.

The Lions (6-4) have been better than I expected. If the playoffs began today, they'd be in. Their coach, Rod Marinelli, has done an excellent job changing the negative culture that has surrounded the franchise.

Is that enough praise for the Lions? I hope so. Because I don't like their chances against the Packers (9-1) on Thursday, and if the Lions drop their third consecutive game, it could set the stage for a very difficult December.

The Lions' weaknesses play into Green Bay's hands.

Detroit's defense ranks 30th out of 32 NFL teams against the pass.

Do you think Brett Favre has noticed?

Favre has been sacked only 14 times this season, and if the Lions do not get a pass rush in Favre's face, he will pick them apart.

Detroit's Jon Kitna figures to be the quarterback under duress.

He already has been sacked 43 times this season, more that any other quarterback in the NFL.

The Packers have two talented pass rushers, Aaron Kampman and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, who will be looking to make a Thanksgiving sandwich out of Kitna. If the Lions can't keep their quarterback off his back, they can't win this game.

Detroit's defense leads the league in forcing turnovers (30), and causing more would give the Lions their best chance to beat Green Bay. But Favre isn't as prone to turnovers as he used to be, which is a key reason the Packers are 9-1.

Marinelli has the Lions headed in the right direction, and I can see him taking a Detroit team to the playoffs in the future. I just don't think it will happen this season.

woodbuck27:

The LIONs have to get it straightened out at the half or Favre will blow them away as this game progress's.

At the half he is all of the show for the Packers as we only saw Ryan Grant carry the ball for sevem yards, yet 1 TD in the opening half.

Brett Favre has passed for another TD and a total of 184 yards on 15 for 21.

I hope that he gets more than 350 yards today and we must win this huge game for a near LOCK on the NFCN.

I hope that MM doesn't take the ball out of Fare ,s hands as we have seen him do earlier this season and with catosthropic results.

MM has to let Favre get it done. Put the Lions nearly away for another season. :)

It appears that MM has gone to school on his bad adjustment at half time earlier this season and a decision that on two occassions as I re-call it threw us out of the game.

MM has to do what we know best.

USE FAVRE's skills amd leadership and ability to see the required play as an option, depended on defensive alignment.

I can't watch this any more. Lack of killer instinct is going to hurt this team... maybe not this game, but before the end of the season, it will.

Not so much in the regular season but in the playoffs it's way more tough to protect a lead or even build on a lead.

I like how Brett never acts like they have arrived, he always stresses they have more work to do.

I am not fond of the final score, but this was very good experience for a very raw secondary, once Woody went down early there were young guys everywhere. Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson were towering over our young DB's all game. I think they managed to hold up pretty well in spite of the final score, and they will only get better as the season wears on.

Special kudos are in order for Tramon Williams for chasing down that return and helping hold D-town to 3 points earlier in the game, it came up big at the end.

10-1 ain't nothin' to sneeze at. Well done Packers...

Packers played OK. Losing KGB and Woodson hurts. They said it was a toe. Probably a broken toe, which is at least a couple weeks, probably more like 4-6. I'm guessing KGB is out a month.

The good thing is we should have both of those guys for the playoffs. The bad thing is they'll be rusty.

We need more TE involvement in the red zone. I haven't watched the tape yet, but I can't remember Donald Lee getting much thrown his way. Just checked the nfl.com stats, says Lee had one catch for 10 yards.

How serious is Bubba's knee injury? We could use him on the goal line. I would like to see more two TE sets but Krause ain't gonna cut it.

We put up 37 points, but amazing as it sounds we still left a lot of points out there on the field today..

It sounds like most of the injuries today were nothing of great concern. KGB was walking around, CW was able to walk to the locker room without a lot of pain. Pickett came back in. Tauscher, it sounds like, could of played.

The one that concerns me is CW, but it doesn't look like something that will keep him out long. We just need him for Dallas. If he can play against Dallas, he can have a game or two to rest up. We're going to need to play A-grade to beat Dallas and we need our best defensive player to do it.

Some will tell you the Packers had no choice but to have Woodson fielding punts.

I guess they'll just rush 11 and attempt to block punts the rest of the season.

This situation pisses me off. Having your aging star corner return punts makes zero sense.

But then again, he could have gotten injured just the same trying to run a pick back for a touchdown. He is back there to make plays and he was making one.

Philly game is a good example of why you don't generally want a wide-eyed rook back there.

b bulldog

he wanted to do it but if Chuck wasn't to be the return man, we should have had another player doing it in the preseason. I don't think it is a great idea to go from Woody to a rookie in week 10 or 11. I know Will was to be the return man but he can't be counted on.

Well I just got done watching the game. I had it recorded and everyone I met or called the first thing I had to say was "Do Not tell me anything about the game!"

Sorry if this is one big recap for you guys but here I go.

What the hell was with that running out of the clock at the end of the half. I could not see that the ball was ever loose and it seemed to me like 3 lions players just jumped up and started acting like it. The lions were using that as cover to keep the clock running to either limit them to a FG or keep them from scoring all together!

There were a lot of other BS things I felt the lions were doing as well that they kept getting away with that just seemed cheap. The lions are now in competition with the bears for the lame ass cheap shot bastards of the NFCN!

These injuries are really upsetting to me because of the NFL's bullshit scheduling. The Packers have had to travel to this game, get all banged up and then travel home to prepare for the next game. And Dallas is (and has been) already sitting in the easy chairs relaxing for next week.

In case you haven't noticed, Dallas is never slated to visit Green Bay during the regular season. That's why I don't put much stock in the won/loss records between the two, because most of the more recent games have all been in Texas except for in 1997 when the Pack roasted their asses 45-17....

Jerry Jones= Everything that wrong with the NFL today! How this pile to crap is able to pull of this bullshit year after year is beyond me! That asshole hates Green Bay because we are the smallest market in the league and we make as much revenue as they do and its because of Green Bay that he doesnt have more control because we prove you dont have to be a rich prick to win football games.

One thing Koren lacks is great hands. If anyone has followed his career, you'll notice the many drops he has had and returning kicks is much easier. The rotation on a punt is trickey while catching a kick is pretty easy. Blackmon was the guy but he can't stay healthy.
