Weird, can the Eagles hang with the Patriots? Excepting an early interception, Philadelpha has drove down the field and scored TDs on the Pats defense on two straight possessions. The deep ball has been there and Feely is delivering.

Given that Vegas set the line at 24 or something, the Iggles are a lot more competitive than virtually anybody thought, at least through a quarter and a bit.

Onside kick in the second quarter. The Eagles are playing to win. Good luck to them.

Brady got absolutely rocked on that 1st quarter sack. The Eagles are playing pretty well, but you can't help but think they are just delaying the inevitable.

Yeah, they are hanging on early but that's all they are doing, hanging on. The Patriots will blow this thing open at one point.

New England's defense isn't All-World.

The problem is their offense. It's incredibly good.

Teams can score on the Pats, but no one has really found a way to slow them down, much less stop them.

I was thinking the same thing.

If the Packers have a special, healthy run, I think they would have a shot at taking down goliath. One injury to Moss, and that team is very beatable.

Fealey is looking very comfortable tonight throwing the ball. Reid has drawn up one hell of a game plan.

Lurker64
11-25-2007, 09:31 PM
I like how the Eagles are going for the throat, they've clearly gameplanned specifically to beat New England, as opposed to a lot of teams which appeared to just want to beat the Pats by doing what they do. It is important to not that despite the Pats gaudy 10-0 record, six of their wins have come over Washington, Cincinnati, Buffalo Twice, the Jets, and Miami all of whom are under .500.

The Pats have played a lot of bad teams this year, if the Eagles can't pull this one off, hopefully they're giving a blueprint to the remaining good teams that are going to play the Pats this year.

Who in the NFL hasn't. They did play the Colts and the Cowboys.

RashanGary
11-25-2007, 09:37 PM
If Moss goes down, I like Chuck and Al's chances on Stallworth and Welker. They said in Oakland that Moss's knees were running out of tread. I think the Packers could pressure Brady, stop the run and score on this team.

The Pats are hard to stop with Moss. Watch. He'll make a great play before this game is done that will change the complection, but if he somehow goes down, the Pats are just another really good team. Not the juggernaut that they have been with MOss.

Lurker64
11-25-2007, 09:38 PM
Who in the NFL hasn't. They did play the Colts and the Cowboys.

Which is more good games than most teams have played to be fair, but most teams would have better records if they played in the AFC East and didn't have to play New England.

That's the hardest hit I"ve ever seen Moss take. That was great.

RashanGary
11-25-2007, 09:44 PM
That was not a TD. That was bad.

Lurker64
11-25-2007, 09:47 PM
Bad call on the TD pass there. Should have reviewed that. Conspiracy theory?

Lurker64
11-25-2007, 09:49 PM
The Eagles are going to have to make a few more plays on defense, but if their offense keeps clicking like it is, I like their chances.

At the very least, they'll cover the spread, which I believe is the second largest in history.

b bulldog
11-25-2007, 09:52 PM
Sharper would really get some good licks in on Moss.

RashanGary
11-25-2007, 09:57 PM
Did you see that hit on Brady? Brady is acctually a pretty tough QB. Every time I watch, he takes one good lick.

Brett falls back so the hits are softer and has eyes on the back of his head. Brady seems to get hit harder. He's younger though. Favre probably plays with a little more self preservation at this point in his career.

Lurker64

The Eagles have forced the Pats to punt, that's telling. A lot of teams barely manage that by the fourth quarter.

RashanGary
11-25-2007, 10:05 PM
The Eagles are a clever, veteran defense. They are confusing the protection and winning the battles.

I wonder how long Philly can keep this up.

RashanGary
11-25-2007, 10:22 PM
That was a bad call, but they got a free 7 at the end of the half so it's only right.

Lurker64
11-25-2007, 10:22 PM
The Eagles need to start picking off the ball when Brady throws bad ones like that. There's not a lot of room for error against this team.

Though the last three plays are as good of a goal line stand as I've seen against the Pats this year.

RashanGary
11-25-2007, 10:23 PM
Come on Iggles. Make a stand here.

RashanGary

If we had a magical healthy run and our dline was 100%, I could see us scoring more points than they do.

They do have a good ST's. So do we.

They have a better offense than theirs, but if healthy we mgiht have a better defense. We'd be the underdog, but I'd love to see the Packers get a shot at that team.

I actually thought GB would match up pretty well.

However, I don't know if we would be as effective getting to Brady with the blitz - that is Phillys bread and butter - and we don't do it that much. It tough to go from 0 to 60 in a single game.

Though I think our Offense would be able to handle its own against the Pats D.

Pacopete4 - thanks for the right quote - I knew it was something like that.

One thing to think of is that when they play the Steelers, I think the Pats will be much more ready to play. I think they wee looking past Philly as everyone thought this would be a 35-40 point game. They are human.

Don't know about Pittsburgh Justin, their O Line play is brutal this year. And the Pats usually will kill a one player attack.

That said, the pass first second and last Eagles just about had their number before a brutal throw into the teeth of Samuel's coverage.

I think the Eagles and Colts have shown that it is wisest to worry about Moss first, then pressure Brady, then then TE, Welker, Maroney and Stallworth.

This game notwithstanding, I think there is a good chance the AFC, NFC gap is closing fast at the top too.

True. Moss gives them a lot of predictable looks. It's hard to stop them when they can just toss it up to Moss. They have to use two guys on him, so Brady knows what he has on the other side. It's the same thing we saw every year in Minny. Culpepper looked like one of the greatest QB's to every play the game for a couple years.

If Moss has a healthy season and a healthy playoffs, they are going to be hard to stop. If Moss has his usual injury, I don't think they are the favorites.

I would do Harris on Moss... Charles on Welker... Then our #3 on Stallworth...

I don't think the Patriots looked past Philly. Philly is a dangerous team, and they were playing in the spotlight game of the week--on Sunday Night football. Defensively, you have to press the WRs, give help on Moss, hope you have a decent slot corner to cover Welker, and hope for some breaks. I'd double Moss, put Woodson on Welker, and take my chances with Stallworth. There are chinks in New England's defense. Their LBs are aging. Philly took advantage of this by relentlessly throwing in the middle of the field. It's a copycat league.

Why the hell did Miami trade Welker? Geez!

Because they have Marty Booker.

They lloked past Philly imo like every fan did in regards to this game. The D is old , LB's in particular.

I think New England's old LBs are going to pose problems for them in the postseason. They cannot cover anyone in the middle of the field, and they aren't fast enough anymore to get after the QB when the offense has a good pass blocking scheme.

With all the pressure to be 19-0, the Patriots are going to have a hard road in the playoffs I think.

I agree but it's the Pats offense that really scares everybody. The Philly OL is huge & awesome in both protection and run blocking. OL, DL, cover corners & a power/speed combo offense is what the doctor ordered vs Pats.

Bottom line is that Pats won 31-28 over Philly on a night where Pats were crowned division champs just prior to the game. They got (more) cocky in their lockerroom; I expect Pats to continue to derive the NFL code and crush Baltimore on monday night next week.

Philly did open a door that Pats could be upset though; I just don't see anyone upsetting Pats in a SB on turf in Arizona. But in a cold january game at Gillette stadium; now that's a plausible scenario.

Pats must not preveil - NEVER!

I think the Packer offense when stretched out 4 and 5 wide is just as scary...and I think Green Bay's defense is better equipped to slow down New England's offense a couple times than New England's defense is to slow down ours. We have fast LBs and a deeper DL (if they get healthy).

The Pats are not unbeatable. The NFL right now is just a piss poor league overall. There are 5 or 6 strong teams in the league...and then there is a whole lotta mediocrity. Hell, Green Bay should be 11-0 right now. NONE of us saw that coming. It speaks to how bad the league really is right now. Having a franchise QB is basically a guarantee for 12 wins right now as long as you have a solid coaching staff and a roster full of guys with a good work ethic and character. The QB play around the league is maddenly inconsistent these days.

I pretty much agree; Packers O is for real yet Pats O doesn't even turn over the rock - that can't go on forever and hopefully the turnovers come during playoffs in New England. I hope!

About good teams; I count 7 in New England, Dallas, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, San Diego (at least potentially) and Tampa Bay. These teams: Seattle, Chicago, Philly, Washington, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and NY Giants can knock out most of the former on a good day in the playoffs. Maybe even Detroit, or New Orleans!!! I think NFC has caught up with AFC sans Pats; Pats are, sadly, still unreal.

Indy and Philly are the only teams to put serious hits on Pats WRs; Pats threw a lot underneath to Welker yet the Moss & the rest pretty much got knocked around...at least a bit.

People tend to forget Philly has a damn good defense and one of the best defensive coordinators in the NHL in Jim Johnson.

I saw the first pick by Asante Samuel to put the Pats up 7-0. Feeley can't throw the out to save his life. I am guessing the last pick was an out too?

Slant and go. Samuel never bit on the slant. Horrible decision by Feeley. The Patriots were truly in danger of losing that game. Philly could have worn down the clock and at least kicked a FG. This game and the Colts game shows the Colts are not unbeatable. I know they made plays to win the games, but a better performance by Feeley at the end would have given the Eagles the win. He gift wrapped the last interception.

We are going to need a similiar strategy thursday night against the Cowboys too. Harris and help on T.O. .I can't wait for this game.

Finally a team played the Pats the way that I have been waiting to see all year long. Team after team has given the Pats WR's free releases off the line. The Eagles pressed them, and the Pats were a completely different team. Brady actually got knocked around a little and you could see the frustration in Moss.

The Eagles didn't win, but they definitely exposed some major chinks in the armor. We certainly don't have the blitz package that Philly does but our corners are the best in the business. The real pain is trying to cover Welker out of the slot. That will be a challenge. NE's linebackers and safeties looked pretty slow last night. Offensively, I don't see how they could stop our Big 5. The Pats are certainly the team to beat, but they are not the unstoppable machine they have been made out to be.

Not for us. Woodson covers the slot receiver almost exclusively in multiple WR sets, so he would be on Welker quite often.

No team is unbeatable but good teams find ways to win when they are playing poorly. All any team has to be is better for one day.
