woodbuck27:

There are 4 CB's listed between position 20 and 32. A good chance that we go in that direction in Round 1.

RB Steve Slaton of West Virginia is set into spot 28.

I sort of see the Packer going either to the offensive line, Defensive end, and Defensive back.

Best available is always going to be the number one selection though.

Best available punter or long snapper.

I see them spending 2-3 picks on the secondary, picking up a linebacker, and also grabbing another guard in the draft.

Brian Brohm seems to have everything necessary to be a very good NFL QB. I really hope he doesn't end up in Minnesota or Chicago.

Because they need to get some depth in the secondary and a legit safety who can play the run and cover. They need some OL help as well.

To have this opinion, you would have to either think the best player available is going to be one of those two or three positions, or Ted Thompson isn't going to take the best player. I think both are bad guesses.

Well, it might not turn to be bad guesses, but for different reasons. OT has some good talent and so does CB. If the best player is one of these (and it very well could be if you trust the experts), we could end up with some CB and OL help. It's not because we need it as much as it was the best player (if you believe Ted when he says he takes the best guy, and I do)

I think the Packers can draft best player available. They don't need a defensive tackle, but that's the only position they are set for future.

I have serious reservations about #97 Jaison Williams, WR out of Oregon.

While he has tremendous size and good speed, his hands are very suspect. When the Ducks #1 and #2 receivers, Brian Paysinger, and Cameron Colvin, were lost in the middle of the season due to injuries, the Ducks needed to count on Williams.

He became very inconsistent in his pass-catching ability. When QB Dennis Dixon was lost for the season, they needed Williams to step step up. In Oregon's 16-0 loss to Arizona, Williams dropped SIX passes, most of them right in his hands!

I would only take him as a free agent, IMO.

Too early to tell, but if this draft is as loaded as it sounds in the defensive backfield, Thompson could pull a Wolf and draft two or three in the first 3 rounds of the draft. Granted he is not looking at an immediate starter but that has never stopped him before.

IF Travis Beckum is really only the 66th best player I say you consider reaching on him if if you have the last few picks in the 1st round. He is a tweener and probably won't help much in the run game, but he provides some serious matchup concerns for any defense. But then again he could run like a 4.68 forty and really be a third round pick if he chooses to come out. He needs to run a sub 4.6 forty to be considered a 1st round talent.

I am not sure this guy has really scouted all 100 players, I think he has made up the forty times, He has Beckum running a 4.6 but then the next guy on the list is a tight end that out weighs Beckum by 20 pounds and has him running a 4.55, what the hell?

I think replacing Tausch will not be too bad to replace. Moll seems to be doing a decent job and he's just in his second year. I'm sure he'll only get better.

Replacing Clifton is a challenge though. This year there is supposed to be a lot of OT talent as well as CB talent. With Thompson taking the BPA, we could end up with some combination of OT/CB in the first two rounds. A stud DE wouldn't hurt either.

IF we got a really good player at each position, this team would be looking great going forward.

I'm all about the BPA though. If there is a stud RB, WR, DE, S, OG, QB then I'm happy because playmakers are so rare that getting one goes a long way and passing on one hurts for a long time.

My gut tells me we are still taking the BPA except for QB. I think that's what we did last year. TT dodged the question, but my view is he had Brady Quinn rated higher than Justin Harrell.

Both Football's Future and NFL Draft Countdown have Packers taking Steve Slaton at #30. Grant and Slaton would be an exciting combination.

By the way, there should be a rule against any more teams trading 1st round picks to the Patriots. Pats have 49ers pick and will be picking anywhere from 2-5. One mock draft has Pats ending up with McFadden.

I believe that they lost their pick in the 1st round for spygate, but I also heard that they lose their highest pick? I think they lose their own but, that is just crazy that they will be picking in the top ten. I wouldn't be suprised if they trade that pick to acquire more talent in the first round and second round. That would be even worse.

Anyways the Packers could pick Slaton if he comes out and that is a big "IF". He is only 190 pounds and needs to work on things for one more year, if he put on another 15 pounds and kept his speed and quickness then he could vault into the top ten in 2009.

Maybe the Packers work a deal out with the Pats and get their top pick and select McFadden. That would be cool.

Tauscher could be replaced and if it comes down to that, if I could replace him with anyone it would be Micheal Oher out of Mississippi. the guy is an athletic monster, slow learner based on his difficult up bringing, but he is an athletic freak. There was a book written about him called, "Blind Side". Really good read, since I have read it I have kept up on the kid. He could have gone to school any where but he choose Ole' Miss because of the support network there due to his adoptive family.

Replacing Clifton is a challenge though.

Colledge is not perfect for LT, a bit taller guy with longer arms is ideal. But he is close enough, and I was impressed with how he has played there when given a shot. (Of course he played LT at Boise State, so it's not a stretch for him.) I wouldn't rule him out.

Left tackle is still his natural position. Some scouts thought to move him inside because he wasn't real heavy and because he didn't have elite height, but he is 6-4, that is tall enough in most cases.

No matter what happens in the first two rounds, you just have to know that TT will find a gem in the 3rd!
