Packers Hall of Fame to add Brown, Winters, Treml

Press-Gazette

Nose tackle Gilbert Brown and center Frank Winters, starters on the Super Bowl XXXI championship team, will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in July.

Brown, nicknamed “The Gravedigger,” spent 10 seasons in a Packers uniform (1993-99, 2001-03) and was an integral part of the NFL’s top-ranked defense in 1996.

Winters played 11 seasons in Green Bay (1992-2002) after being signed by General Manager Ron Wolf as a free agent. He earned a Pro Bowl berth in 1996.

Also to be inducted: Al Treml, a Green Bay native who was the team’s video director from 1967 to 2001. Under his guidance, the Packers became the first NFL team to utilize non-linear digital editing, a system now used by most teams.

Brown was claimed on waivers by Wolf from the Minnesota Vikings during training camp in 1993 and wound up playing 125 games for the Packers, including 103 starts. He clogged the middle and made it difficult for opponents to run. He was part of a formidable defensive line during the Packers’ championship season in 1996 that included Reggie White, Santana Dotson and Sean Jones.

Brown is one of four true defensive linemen to have played 10 seasons for the Packers. The others included Dave Hanner (1952-64), Henry Jordan (1959-69) and Ezra Johnson (1977-87).

Winters was the Packers’ starting center for eight straight seasons (1993-2000) and was the only Packers offensive lineman to play in the Pro Bowl since Larry McCarren was named to the NFC squad in 1983. Winters also earned USA Today All-Pro honors in 1999.

Tickets for the July 19 induction banquet can be purchased by calling Gwen Borga at (920) 965-6984, or e-mail her at gborga@packerhalloffame.org. The banquet will be held in the Lambeau Field Atrium.

I wonder if they're going to serve Gilbert Burgers and bags of donuts at the Induction banquet.
