Here we are at the end of a wonderful season gearing up to go to the playoffs. Before the season and after witnessing our lack of involvement in free agency I often used the phrase "8-8 would be really great". To say the Packers have exceeded any expectations I have would be an understatement. The only thing that stood in our way of having home field advantage throughout the playoffs were those despised Chicago Bears.

What a great year, and now we finish the season at home against the Detroit Lions. At full strength it appears we would crush this team. As is it looks like Woodson is taking the day off and possibly Jennings as well. Several starters sound like they will only see limited action.

Today we border along the line of wanting to play well and go into the post season with momentum against making sure that we don't have any serious injuries that would hurt us in the playoffs.

Ah, who would have thunk it; what a nice problem to have.

As I get ready to make my trip to Lambeau Field to witness the finale of a great season, I can sit back and reflect on this one as being one of the most enjoyable seasons I have witnessed.

Here's to hoping we have more memories this year :glug:

I'm off to pack the car; I hope this game thread provides us the push to go all the way in the playoffs

Can't believe we're at this point.

I'm hoping to see Tramon Williams and Will Blackmon allowed to actually play man coverage for most of the game if Woodson is sitting today.

The big question is:

Are we going to see Aaron Rodgers or Craig Nall get more time with the starters?

May Bretsky be responsible for starting the first game thread next season! Go Bretsky, Go Bretsky!!

Damn, what a season. I love it!! It will be great to see some of the kids get a little game action. Let's see what they can do.

My brother and some friends just left my place on their way to the game. After trying for like two months to get tickets for him (before Detroit actually looked like the lame ass Lions they are)...today, people are practically giving tix away. Anyhow, to those that are going, have a great time and B, take us to the SB, will ya? tar was supposed to do that but there is this team called the Bears that def were the thorn in our side this year !!!

The weather today is cold, (about 12 right now) but not snowy or windy. This is the kind of weather that we can probably expect come playoff time. Then again, anything is possible in WI...except a temp above 35 in Jan

They need to stomp on the lions no matter who is sitting.

esoxx

Not a good move, imo, to approach this as a quasi-preseason game. Nothing like a two game losing streak going into the playoffs. :x

MJZiggy
12-30-2007, 11:30 AM
Who says we're gonna lose it? You don't think Driver, JJ, Martin and Robinson can spread the offense without Jennings? I'm curious to see how the younger players do vs. the Lion wideouts. Can they contain them? Have they been learning from their elders? Maybe they're just waiting for the chance to step up and be game changers.

Of course Driver, Favre, etc... will put out as usual. But how will they be able to put out sitting on the bench in the 3rd quarter. I don't have a problem sitting guys that are dinged or whatever, but if they pull starters with the game in doubt (see preseason game approach) then I'm going to have a problem with it.
And who's JJ? Haven't heard from him in 3-4 games.

Then why is Favre, Grant, Clifton, Barnett, Hawk, etc... even playing? This pick and choose of who should sit and who should play is weak. Line up and play the game straight up.
The 70,000 fans who paid big $$$ for tix probably don't think it's meaningless. Or else they are fools.

I guess I don't agree with not playing all those starters. I can see Woodson and Jennings, who are a little banged up, but not the rest. These guys need to play in the cold and get some play time.

Reminds me of, I think two years ago when the Colts rested alot of their starters the last couple of games and came out flat in the playoffs.

CaliforniaCheez

A lot of players out.

McCarthy is screwing up and will have to learn from his mistakes on handling success.

Players huddling around the heater instead of moving stretching and keeping warm is a bad sign.

The Packers are acting like losers and I do not like it.

McCarthy thinks they can pick up in the playoffs after a month without much success.

I say as soon as Brett and company look 'sharp' they should get them out of there for a few obvious reasons. But I also like seeing the backups and possible players emerge with PT.

I've also liked some of the calls so far - give teams some film of random stuff all day - like that end around and onside attempt so far.

Just getting on the game.

Great start to a BiIG day. :)

I want to see our 'D' pick it up a lot. The 'D' has been averaging 23 Pts. against since our shutout win over the vikings. That's not performance. I can still see the look on Favre's face when we last played the Lions and in the second half started to play really soft defenseively.

I hope we don't see that look again today. We have to build today on 'D' or we're as good as one and out in the playoff's.

I'd bet there's a bit of posturing going on by the Packer's staff with regards to pulling starters and labeling injuries.

Everyone has injuries - most aren't listed if it's minor or a pre-existing injury.

They've got 2 full weeks to recover (many had about 3 including this past week). I'm not worried - especially because this game allows us to grow depth by playing backups.

Crosby now has 137 points scored. He is currently tied with Gostkowski (NE kicker) for most points as a kicker.

Graham (CIN) is at 126 thru 1 half.
Gould (CHI) is at 125 thru 1 half.
Folk is at 125 points...playing at 4pm
Bironas is at 123...playing at 4pm.

GB's 5 wide receiver, no backfield sets reminds me of when, in a live game, Satchel Paige who was both pitcher and manager of his team, on third outs would send all the infield and outfield to the bench. Just Paige and the catcher remaining on the field.

"That's confidence," as Jerry Horne used to say.

I've got B.Jackson's current stats at 20 rushes for 113 yds plus 2 catches for 22. Taking away the 46 yd run, the rest of the carries (19 for 67) comes out to about a 3.5 yd avg. With backups in there his blocking hasn't been the greatest, but he still dances too much.
The 3rd down back role seems to be his for the taking...Morency has had a few good plays this year, but otherwise hasn't shown much to make him a priority resigning.
