TOP
1. Packers
2. Seahawks
3. Browns
4. Bills
5. Bengals

Really, it's the Packers and then everybody else. The NFL is one sport where I really only have one team.

FLOP
28. Patriots
29. 49ers
30. Cowboys
31a. Vikings
31b. Bears

Normally, it would be the Raiders at #28, but the Patriots have temporarily replaced them.

You know that Bretsky will have major problems with your #28 spot!

I only root for one team on a consistent basis and that's the Pack.

I root against teams with prolonged success (Patriots) teams with arrogant fans (Eagles and Cowboys) and NFC North rivals. However, if either the Vikes or the Lions made the playoffs I'd possibly root for them. I'd never root for the Bears, but you've gotta feel a little sorry the people of Detroit and Minnesota.

In other cases, I'll root for the underdog.

How is it possible that the Dolphins or Falcons haven't made anyone's flop list?

Fun thread!

Fave Five:
1. Packers (who else?)
2. Saints: always liked them, liked them more after Katrina
3. Browns: always liked them; great history; I worked in CLE the three years they were gone and watched the new stadium get built every day on the way to work. I tend to like the teams that were part of the NFL in the late 1960s when I started following football the best.
4. Colts: liked 'em in Baltimore and still do; I am a big fan of my fellow Gopher alum Tony Dungy (I went to grad school at the U of M)
5. Patriots: my #2 team as a kid (what do you expect for a guy like me who went on to be a political science prof?) ; liked 'em better before they got rid of Pat Patriot (can't stand the current uniforms either); liked them better before Parcells and Belichick too, esp. the latter. Still, I live in New England and lots of my friends and students here love them; nice to see them happy.

Just off the list: Cardinals (liked them better when they were a Midwestern team), Seahawks (always did like them and still like Holmgren), and yes, the Vikings (the one and only NFL player I've really known was my brother's best friend who grew up five blocks away and played ten years for the Vikings back when I was little; he was nice to me and I was in awe seeing a huge NFL player come to the house in his official team sweats).

Foul Five

32. The Cowboys, and it ain't close.
31. Bears--but I have a healthy rival's respect for them
30. Raiders
29. The Evil Ravens (if YOU had lived in Cleveland from 1996-99, you'd call them the Evil Ravens too):satan:

Big dropoff after that; usually it's been the Redskins (among other things, I never did forgive them for beating the Packers in '72--it was the first Packer playoff game I remember, being barely too young to remember the Lombardi years), but under the circumstances I wouldn't mind seeing them do well this year. I could plug in Miami, Carolina, Jacksonville, Denver or maybe Tennessee instead.

How is it possible that the Dolphins or Falcons haven't made anyone's flop list?
It's hard to kick someone when they're down--but when they were up, I couldn't stand the Dolphins. Lots of the teams I grew up disliking as a kid were 1. good in the 1970s, which made me sick of them or 2. were in the Sun Belt (when I was really young, my default was to root for whoever was closest to my hometown). The Dolphins, Dodgers, Cowboys and Lakers (to name a few) met the criteria beautifully, got on my bad list and never got off of it.
