    Greatest Drinking Songs

I am watching the 40 greatest country songs on cmt tonight, so i wonder what everyone else would consider a great drinking song. maybe its a song that is about drinking or maybe its a song that after you've been drinking you can't help but sing when it comes on the juke box, or the band starts playing.

here are some of mine. yes they are country songs, but you probably could have guessed that.

    white lightning--George Jones
    chug a lug--rodger miller
    What made milwaukee famous--jerry lewis
never call me by my name--david allen coe
piano man--billy joel. wow not country--sing this song near closing time

i think of some more and list them later

Once when I was in Vegas with a bunch of friends we were all pretty drunk about 3am sitting at a blackjack table and kept singing The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. The dealer was a pretty good sport and went pretty easy on us .....actually he and the occupants at table on each side of us were pretty entertained. We called it quits shortly after one of my friends kept hollering hit me, hit me.....when she had 21 in front of her w/ 5 cards.

    love that song too, 007.

its was a warm summer's eve, on a train bound for nowhere.....

in case anyone is curious, Friends in Low Places--Garth Brooks is the number one song. Followed by Family Tradition by Hank JR. another song for him on the list.

Speaking of singing country songs.......lol One of the kid's cousins brought over a video Karaoke game with country songs on it. It has a mic you hook up to the tv and obviously the words come up on the screen. You are not scored based on catching every word but rather the tone and hitting all the notes. You get boo'd off stage if you are too bad. Nobody could even come close to getting a decent score with Johnny Cash. I have to admit I was shy at first but man is that thing addictive....lol I got my highest score singing Crazy by Patsy Cline.

    George Thorogood:

"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer"
    "I Drink Alone"
    "Madison Blues"
"If You Don't Start Drinking, I'm Gonna Leave"

Well, pretty much any Thorogood song.

    "Roadhouse Blues" - The Doors

"Snortin' Whiskey, Drinking Cocaine" - Pat Travers

"Black Water" - Doobie Brothers - a personal favorite

Absolutely, Jimmy Buffet. See also "Wasted Away Again in Margaritaville".
I prefer the punk version (by Me First and the Gimme-Gimmes?).

Not into country at all, but "Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off" and "Johnny's Got His Beer Goggles On" (sorry about the song titles - only an approximation) are pretty funny. I also think they're the same tune, only different words. Also, who wrote and sang that song "Alcohol"?
I liked the line about "helping white guys dance..."
"What's one more torpedo in a sinking ship?"
    Lynn Dickey, 1984

"Never apologize, mister. It's a sign of weakness."
John Wayne, "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon"

alcohol, is sung by Brad Paisley. the line i like is "since the day i left milwaukee..." notice he give props to the original brew city. not that hole down in MO!!

he has quite a few very good songs. Alcohol, is on the album, time well wasted. also check out Mud on the Tires, very good cd.

If you want the real answer ask anyone who's actually Irish, as in From Ireland, not "of Irish descent".

Those guys invented the drinking song.

How about "I love this Bar" by Toby Keith. Or his new one, "Get Drunk and Be Somebody"

Toby has a bunch of good drinking songs, Whiskey for my Men and Beer for My Horses.

    "Spicy McHaggis Jig"
    "Bastards on Parade"
    "Blackout"

Or the ultimate Irish drinking song: "Garryowen"
