Report: Dolphins' Porter, Bengals' Jones in altercation
    ESPN.com news services

Former Pittsburgh Steelers standout and current Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter was cited by Las Vegas police for misdemeanor battery after he allegedly punched another NFL player in the face Sunday night, according to a published report.

The Las Vegas Review Journal is reporting that Porter was cited for an alleged fight he had with Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle Levi Jones.

"Apparently these two have a history with each other, a history of trash talking on the field," Las Vegas police Lt. Kevin McMahill told the paper.

Jones was treated by medical personnel at the scene, McMahill said.

Porter recently signed a five-year, $32 million deal with the Dolphins after being released by the Steelers.

In his eight-year career, Porter has 60 sacks and 10 interceptions.

The NFL averages one player arrested a week.

This offseason that rate is being maintained. So far I count 10 players:

Karlos Dansby, Cardinals LB (Speeding, no licence plate, gun in car)
Terrence Kiel, Chargers Safety (Public urination; last year controlled substance)
Tyoka Jackson, Lions DE (assaulting a flight attendant)
Jonathan Babineaux, Falcons DT (animal cruelty)
    Dominic Rhodes, Colts RB (DUI)
    Deshea Townsend, Steelers CB (assult)
Jerramy Stevens, Seahawks TE (DUI, marijuana)
Charles Sharon, Jaguars WR (marijuana, possesion of stolen handgun)
    Joey Porter, Dolphins LB (battery)
Gerald Sensabaugh, Jaguars Safety (speeding, illegal firearm)

24 weeks until the season begins so I expect 24 more NFL players arrested.

Maybe later on as it gets closer to training camp we will discover another "Onterrio Smith" who was carrying something unique for his "cousin." -- http://www.whizzinator.com/whiz2.htm

I counted 21 NFL players being arrested during the 2006 season.

From March 22 of 2006 to present, 51 arrests of NFL players took place that I am aware.

So I will stick by the average of one a week. I include draft picks not yet signed by their teams such as Santonio Holmes last year. Additionally, of course, some players have multiple arrests.

Pacman's arrest was February of 2006. He is not included in the list of players arrested in the last year. Gunfights, spitting on women at a Disco etc. don't count.

Likewise Maurice Clarett does not count because he was not an NFL player during his robbery arrest or the more famous last one (August 9, 2006).

Marcus Vick did not count either because he was not drafted and his drug arrest, his gun arrest, and sexual battery on a minor(records sealed) were all before being signed with the NFL.

Delthea O'Neal one of many Bengals was arrested December 9th, 2006. He is included in the numbers.
