    Jolly to IR

    Jolly placed on IR

Green Bay - As expected, the Packers placed defensive tackle Johnny Jolly on injured reserve this evening.

The team has not yet signed another player to take his place on the 53-man roster.

Jolly, 24, had started seven of the Packers' first 10 games at right defensive tackle before hurting his shoulder in the Nov. 18 victory over Carolina. An MRI last week came back "not good" according to coach Mike McCarthy.

Also, the Packers signed defensive tackle Alfred Malone to the practice squad and released tight end James Adkisson.

Malone (6-4, 308) spent the 2005-06 seasons with the Houston Texans after playing collegiately at Troy. He appeared in four games and totaled 13 tackles.

Shit, I really like Jolly. Hopefully he can still work out his legs all off season and come into next year ready to play. I think both he and Harrell have very high ceilings. I like the idea of having two complete players with Pickett as the run specialist and Williams as the pass rush specialist next year.

...and signaling the beginning of the decline of the Green Bay Packers return to glory, the team is now signing Texan castoffs. That can't be good...

I wonder if the the Packer front office may look at Sam Adams now. Cole's on IR...Jolly's now done for the year. They have plenty of cap room, not that Sam Adams is going to cost much more than the League Min. Plus, they now have an open roster space and could use a run stuffing DT. I've seen a difference in the run defense since Jolly's been out.

I think they want to look at Harrell...and give him some reps. So far, he's looked OK. As long as no one gets hurt, I think we stand pat.

I think it's gonna be the revolving door of Marviel Underwood for the rest of the season...

Harrell has one job to do: be competitive against the Dallas offensive line in the January playoff game. If he can't reach this level, he's useless to the team this season. I really can't evaluate his performance so far. The Dallas O-line is very good.

Yep, it's time for Harrell to step up. Gotta show what you can do big boy.
All hail the Ruler of the Meadow!

Depth on the defensive line is looking so crucial at this time. Drafting Harrell regardless of him having an impact (now for depth and hopefully showing signs of being a force down the road) so far suggests almost fate in the moves that TT has done this year.

I watched Harrell on a handful of plays. On one play, he got driven back a bit, but on the other plays he had push and then a pass knockdown (and then a penalty), made an outstanding tackle down the line on another play, stood his ground on a play, and got push on the other. I'd say I was pleasantly surprised by his play on the ones that I watched.
