JAGUARS LOSE BOTH STARTING GUARDS
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 8, 2008, 6:34 p.m.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost a game to the Tennessee Titans yesterday, and they learned that they also lost both starting guards today.

Guard Vince Manuwai is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, and guard Maurice Williams could miss the entire season, and most likely at least two months, with a ruptured right biceps. Manuwai has started every game except one for the last five years; Williams has started all but six games for the last six years.

Coach Jack Del Rio indicated that the team hasn’t decided whether to place Williams on injured reserve, and the team also hasn’t decided which free agent offensive linemen it will sign, although at least one will be brought in this week. Free agent Chris Liwienski, who was waived by the Jaguars at the end of the preesason, is expected to be brought in for a workout.

“We know we’re going to have to bring some people in, bring them up to speed as soon as possible, plug them in and keep rolling,” Del Rio said.

The Jaguars were already without starting center Brad Meester, who could miss the first month of the season after a preseason biceps injury, and without backup tackle Richard Collier, who was shot last week.
