Hesistated and then went on saying, well, he has another year under his belt...so he should have a better feel for the defense..and then frickin circle talked about he came in GB in good shape this year yadayadayadayada

So it has me wondering, Did we grossly overdraft this guy due to GUTEY's RAS Love ?

Is this guy going to be a stud, OR is this just anohter looks like Tarzan plays like Jane guys ?

CLEARLY at the end of last year, Gutey often stressed these guys gotta be coached up. So much for our DL coach. Hopin the dude produces lots, but if he doesn't perhaps its time for the GM to admit the mistake at such a high pick

Bust. Gutes really loves him an athlete that plays average football. I think no matter what Van Mess will look like a bust because we don't run a scheme that leads to sacks. However, I do think he can be decent because he fits the bull rush, collapse the pocket, hold the lane system we are running. I say Bust because he won't fill up a stat sheet even at his best.

That said I'll say that coaching does matter a lot. MiLF had Mike Smith as our OLB coach when we drafted Gary and he looked great. Since Smith left Gary has regressed. Smnith famously turned a couple of KC no first rounders into great pass rushers and has done so everywhere he goes. He just joined the Patriots, watch as they have someone have a breakout season.

That said, yes, some guys are really good at "coaching up" an athlete. Most are pretty similar. I prefer drafting players and having them improve on being a good player and also improve their athleticism through training. Its more reliable.

With the two choices, I'll go with the first. I'm not completely confident he will be all pro or like that, but he's a good player who should be a solid starter for years barring injuries.
