Hobbs has actually managed to be as bad or worse than Nixon. Do NOT give him that $6.25. Show his ass the door.

Sounds like this could be available for cost cutting?Originally posted by Packers On SI
What Is Next for Nate Hobbs?
Whether that next opportunity will be with the Packers in 2026 remains to be seen.
The four-year, $48 million contract he signed really was a one-year-and-go-from-there deal. He is due a $6.25 million roster bonus at the start of the league-year. If the Packers were to release him rather than pay the bonus, they’d save $1.05 million against the cap.
That’s not much money from a cap perspective, and it’s not as if the Packers are loaded with talented young cornerbacks. On the other hand, Hobbs struggled as a perimeter cornerback – injuries might have had a hand in it – and Javon Bullard has solidified his spot as the nickel defender.

Trade LaFleur straight up for Mike McDaniel! About time the Packers get another Black head coach.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostTom Pelissero

McDaniel is a genius, I reckon.

Going to the theme of resting guys from the other thread I'd start Morgan at LT. Gotta see if he still looks as solid as he did against some starters in the fake games. I pray they didn't screw this kid up.Originally posted by pbmax View PostA vet starting LT will be too costly. They need to get young and cheap. Morgan or someone will need to step up.

I think they need to lock this guy up. I know that I probably fueled the "Morgan is the future at LT" fire more than most and I do believe in him, but I have to ask a question.....if he's not a step down from Walker why isn't he even getting practice snaps there. I am terrified they fucked this kid up by trying to force his round ass into a square slot.
I think they need to start doing a little rotation at LT right now to make sure they can let Walker leave. This team has just taken WAY the fuck too long to figure out what I said on draft day. Belton is the RG of the future and Morgan is the LT of the future. They both lost a campful of snaps at the position they need work on. Morgan continues to not be able to focus on his future position. And I have to ask....was Rhyan a center all along?
I do like the makeup of the current OL believe it or not. If Belton continues to improve and they all gel as a unit the talent is finally in the right spots...but seriously pay Walker right now or start rotating Morgan in.

This will be a very interesting off season. Currently we have no solid answer at center or
LT. I doubt they pay Jenkins (even he doubted it before he wasn't that good at center).
We lose a lot of important players and if we cut Jenkins and Gary (which neither has earned their salary) its even worse.
OL ?, Overpaid, ?, Belton (maybe), Tom
TE room looks decent if health returns. WR Lose Doubs. Still marginally ok, but will require improvement from both rookies to be as good. QB Love is injury prone and Willis is a FA.
EDGE: Parsons out, Enagbare is next best and FA. Probably need to cut Gary. Would need massive improvement from Oliver and Sorrell. Interior isn't good even if wyatt returns. LB Quay just doesn't have instincts. Should have converted him to EDGE last year. Cooper hasn't made the leap. Peyton Wilson sure would look better in green and gold than Hopper or Lloyd. CB....ugh. Safety seems ok so we got that going for us.
So many holes, so little money. This years draft class hasn't shown me shit except Belton who needs to hit the weight room and improve his body and conditioning. Bullard and Williams have balled out from last years class. I guess Policy won't fire Gutes and keep MiLF but he should.

I don't see how they can bring Gary back on that contract at this point. He's the third defensive end AFTER Parsons's injury. Enagbare and LVN are both playing better than he is. He's gotten s-l-o-w. He reminds me more and more of Nick Perry. You've also got Brenton Cox and Colin Oliver waiting in the wings. Cut Rashan Gary.
By the way, I suddenly had this realization last night that the Lions are the kind of team that would sign Malik Willis, and that's a scary thought. Willis was amazing last night. Jared Goff is clearly not the solution in Detroit. Brad Holmes could change the entire look of his offense by signing Willis, and weaken an NFC North opponent. Yikes. Hell, the Vikes could do that, too. Yikes.

Packers can save 20 million on the cap by cutting Jenkins. They would save 11 million by cutting Gary before June 1, 20 million by cutting him after June 1. As things stand right now, that would put then about 50 million under the cap. Could be an interesting off-season.

I just heard this again on a podcast - it was Mike Wahle, I think. He said - as others have said and written, among them Justis Mosqueda - that in today's NFL, "practice" is mostly in the classroom any more. During the season, there are very few actual practice reps to be had, because of both the NFLPA/Owners' Agreement, and the hectic nature of an NFL schedule, which means practices are really about game planning.
I think Bobble's idea makes sense - get Morgan some snaps at LT, to give him some reps and also to see if he really is the LT of the future. Maybe do it against Denver, against Baltimore, against the Vikes, maybe the second Bears game.
Maybe re-signing someone comes down to "Is Sean Rhyan a better center than Rasheed Walker is a left tackle?" And/or "Is it cheaper to sign a center than a tackle?" And/or can Morgan play left tackle well enough to afford letting Walker go, and/or are we going to re-sign Quay Walker, and if we are, does that preclude us from re-signing Rasheed Walker? And are we cutting Rashan Gary next offseason?
So much is intertwined.

After camp ends there simply aren't enough real snaps to allow for it when he is primarily playing RG, RT, LG or wherever the fuck else they have played him. And a walkthrough isn't the same as a real snap. I imagine they have put him there for 5 snaps a week and expected him to absorb the gameplan just in case though....along with his 5 at every other position making sure he couldn't retain any of it.Originally posted by Joemailman View PostHow do you know Morgan isn't getting practice snaps at LT? Did Walker do any more than make a nice fumble recovery? We weren't running outside to the left much as I recall. I don't want them to overpay for him.
I said from the day Jenkins went out injured that Rhyan did fairly good at Center, way better than he ever did at Guard and better than Jenkins had done at Center.
Belton has been downright decent at RG; Banks has been showing a few signs, but nowhere near what a $17 million man should be.
Tom looked almost like his old self. Hopefully he stays healthy and keeps it up.
Morgan? He looked fairly decent at RG, and he may have a future at LT, who knows.
The O Line in general has been better lately, but it's kinda a matter of lowered expectations. Love was still rushed virtually every time he dropped back, but his mobility made the line look better than it was. And Jacobs did have a few openings, same as Wilson the week befpre, but not like last season and not like it should be.
The Packers can win with this O Line as well as with the lame-assed Corners they have, thanks to talent at the "skill positions" and of course the pass rush, but it won't be easy, and there's little or now room for slip-ups, turnovers, etc.
