If the Packers win their games (especially the conference ones), we should be OK.

Giants just re-took the lead.

That's playing it safe.

Today the Eagles got the NFC East. The Cowboys are a Wild Card. A Packer win Monday makes them the #1 Wild Card.

A Packer loss Monday gives them the #2 Wild Card.

You want to cheer for the Eagles to beat the Giants next week.

The Falcons, 49'ers, Bears, and Seahawks are pretty much out of it.

The Packers are now competing with the 2 NFC East teams that don't win the division. Having the Cowboys as one of them is a good thing because the supreme tiebreaker is head to head win.

Eagles 8-4, Conf 7-2, Div 3-1
Cowboys 8-4, Conf 6-3, Div 2-2
Giants 7-5, Conf 5-3, Div 3-1

The Giants have the Eagles at Home, @ WAS, CAR, @ vikings (1 or 2 losses)
The Cowboys have home v SD, @ NO, @WAS, Home v. Eagles (2 or 3 losses)
The Eagles have @Giants, 49'ers, Denver, @ Cowboys (1 or 2 losses)

Fair enough, it is one game. And it is against the enigma that is the Arizona Cardinals. Mild mannered most of the season, then play lights out in certain games. Sometimes they look Super Bowl bound; other times like they should be fighting the 49ers to stay out of 3rd place in the West.

Yeah, on further review I agree. That looks like the total package, since the knee doesn't flop around like that unless you've torn a bunch of ligaments. That might be worst than Daunte's knee injury, to compare recent catastrophic knee injuries for Viking players.

The lower bones of leg likely broke, tibia & fibula. Likely corresponding ligament damage in the knee due to the unnatural wrenching action.
Reminds me of Willis McGahee injury, both were frontal shots followed by grotesque images. Although McGahee's blow was higher up on the leg.
Hopefully E.J. can bounce back like McGahee did but it will take about two yrs.

It looks like he damaged both the ACL and the MCL, so the recovery time on that will stretch into next season (if not the season after). Considering, as a LB, he needs to cut and change direction a lot, it could be a tough road back for him.

Big blow for the Vikes.

Edwards made the Pro Bowl his rookie year. He was hurt in a league sanctioned flag football game on the beach. It was a non-contact injury but Charles Woodson was somehow involved in the play in which he was injured.

We had Vikes all around us and they were cheering and jeering at us and we were giving it back all through the first quarter. Then as soon as they started losing, it was no longer any fun for them to trash talk with us. They were telling us to "quiet down" etc. Excuse me? Holy Smokes that's a very rare football injury. More associated with MVA's and the like. The exertion required to fracture a femur bone is quite high. Would be surprised if he can come back anything close to form, if at all.

Proves again that football is not a contact sport; it's a collision sport.

Dancing is a contact sport.

Yeah, but you can also say that the Steelers are getting hot again if they come back and win. Bottom line is the Packers have to do their job this week, next week and every week regardless of the situation.

If the Steelers lose, stick a fork in them. If they win, they're still on the outside looking in for the WC. There are so many teams that have a tiebreaker over them that it'll be a tough road even if they do win tonight.

pbmax
12-10-2009, 09:30 PM
The Browns are now sort of the emeritus role of rival for the Steelers like the Bears are for the Packers. The rivalry with the Ravens (as they have been much better for quite sometime and more of a threat) plays the role of the Vikings.

But for the Browns and their fans, this win would make everything seem a whole lot better for a week.

Then again, if you don't get angry after losing to the Chiefs and Raiders, why would you get angry after losing to the Chiefs, Raiders, and Browns?

The Browns are a division opponent.

But they're the Lions of the AFC North...

So, I guess there are two ways we can look at this. Pittsburgh could go in to a mini bye-week, prepare for the Packers like no other team, and play us like we're their superbowl. Or Pitt could pack it in and gives us a lackluster effort.

I could see the former happening. The Pit game and the Bears worry me the most out of our remaining schedule

Between the TB loss and this stinker of a game (from Pitt's point of view), hopefully our lads in Green and Gold can get an immediate lesson.

For Pittsburgh, they are essentially the #10 seed. They have a 4-5 conf. record plus they still have to play the Ravens and the Fins in the AFC. Ravens beat them once before. Even running the table may not get them in.

Wow, what a fall from the title!

Lurker64

One possible angle here is that the Steelers might put Polamalu in IR now. Since they're essentially playing for nothing (Jacksonville wins this weekend and they're all but mathematically eliminated; having six conference losses hurts for tiebreakers), there's no reason to rush Polamalu back. If he was really close to healthy, the game to rush him back for would be the one against a divisional foe in a thursday night game, when you basically need to win out in order to make the playoffs. At this point in Pittsburgh though, the guys pretty much have to be playing for 2010 (either draft position, or to keep their jobs for next year).

If Ben Rothlesberger was a finisher PITT would have won all of those games. Big Ben is an overrated QB, if he had "it" PITT would be 11-2 not 6-7. He had the ball in his hands numerous times in those losses late in the game and couldn't put up points. If I was PITT I would look at developing that Dixon guy he's the next NFL superstar. Maybe they should trade for Cutler.

As a poster I hardly ever display a serious bias or man-love to a player from another team. I reserve the right to ride the Cribbs bandwagon, if only for the reason that I don't normally do this. Conventional wisdom says you're right. But even if we got Cribbs, and even if he was only good for 2-3 years for us. It would still pay enormous dividends. Can anyone explain the Houston Texans? They lost to the teams they should beat and beat teams that seem better than they are. I have no idea how good they might be.

Ravens have had some killer penalties. 2 flags to take away TD's and then just got flagged for illegal contact on a Zbikowski INT.

Pitt wins

Broncos tie Philly in Philly while missing Eddie Royal (injury) and Brandon Stokley (emotional disorder). There is no team the Packers should fear in the NFC playoffs.

No, though they are quite inhospitable at times. McNabb pulled their bacon out of the fire.

He'll do it just to piss Chilly off because he knows the media will be watching for the reaction.

yes. i want the eagles to overtake minn for the second spot and for dallas and minn to meet in the first round. that way it's insured that one of my two most-hated will be knocked out in the first round.

Eagles are scary good. Minnesota does NOT want to play Dallas, then go to Philly on the road.

This game is HUGE.

If MN loses tonight, Philly will control their own destiny for the 2 seed.

Dallas is a solid team. They're going to play their hearts out for that home playoff game and who knows, the big stadium, the revenue, that just reeks of a game that the NFL wants Dallas to win.

As far as tonights game, Favre is playing OK. Missing a couple throws, a couple drops. It's not all him, but Chicago is doing a good job of showing one thing and doing another, just sort of keeping Minny out of a rhythm.

I have little doubt that the Vikings are a solid team, damn solid, but they're really only scary on their home turf with that crowd advantage. With two road games, I don't think they have any more of a chance than the Packers do.

Nice drive by Favre. He saw some things he wanted to see. The Bears were really playing the run lanes, so the pass pro was great.

That's what makes the Minny offense a little scary. When you have to play to stop AP, Favre can sit back there. When he has time like that, he's gong to make plays.

I don't know what Minnesota has done to counter that bad first half, but hopefully Chicago can figure it out and take back control of this game.

but the Bears aren't going to lay down. Nice ST's play.

For some reason, I don't picture Brett getting the time he had on the last drive. Something tells me Lovie is going to dial up a little pressure this time.
