King Friday

Ehhh, it's slightly different as it is 4th down and you literally have to throw it.

So did Favre...he was facing an all out blitz, and would've taken a sack so we'd have to punt the next play.

Favre threw it up and gave his receiver a chance to make a play. It was the correct move in BOTH situations.

My thought too. If it was easy to get a 79 yard TD with the other team playing 9 men 20 or more yards off the line every team in the league wouldn't be running multiple laterals to do it.

Badgerinmaine

They've probably just played the two hardest games on their schedule, with the possible exception of playing at Arizona after Christmas (though I grant the Raiders are a heck of a lot better than I thought they would be this year). And Arizona usually has at least a third Packers fans there when Green Bay plays in the desert, so it's not the harshest road environment possible. What's huge now is the Vikings game in Minneapolis in two weeks. Today was aggravating, but I'm not ready to panic.

Yep. Losing 2 in a row is the key. Happened in 2010 and 1996.

With the way this team is playing, on both sides of the ball, no chance.

Saw a stat that is the most yards the Packers have given up defense during a three game stretch in team history.
That's saying a lot, given how god awful that 2011 defense was.

I think this team will struggle to win 10 games. Just way too many holes.
In previous years, Rodgers play would mask the poor performance in other areas. Not this year. No more ....

You're right about the secondary problems. Megatron though isn't what he once was although he's still pretty good. If they stop blowing assignments, they'll be okay. If they don't, it doesn't matter who the opposing WR is.

its happened for years

the super bowl year, we had chuck woodson and nick collins making huge plays after we would give up all those yards. its the capers defense. the problem is that we don't have the playmakers to slam the door shut at the end of drives and games like those two did

pbmax
11-08-2015, 05:03 PM
Its lack of pass rush. Capers plays a lot of trail coverage (as did the LeBeau Steelers) and you do have a window to complete a pass if the back level of the D is not nearby. What is stopping most QBs from threading that needle is pressure. Just like Rodgers was forced off Cobb on 4th down.

Without pressure, that trail coverage is especially vulnerable to QBs who have good arms and like to throw to empty spaces and let the WR run to the ball (who don't like tight window throwing). So Wilson and Newton can exploit it. So can Rivers and Manning if they have time.

Uh.. Hello??! If Davis isn't there, the ball falls incomplete and you still win! Don't know who made the play? Seriously? YOUR DEFENSIVE LINEMAN, SHORT!

Davis made some good plays in his own right, but Kawan Short is the guy that saved the game on 4th down.

The only blitzes working are the overload and the Matthews audible where he jumps into an A gap while the other LB is in the other.

They did force some quick throws from Newton, he was 15-30, but for the most part it seemed to weaken the pass D and put them in a lot of man to man.

The only reliable is Jones and he only plays on obvious passing downs. They are DT'ing Daniels frequently.

It shouldn't be that hard because teams are Max Protecting after all the Packer pressure success in the first 3 games. So its not like they are running 5 man routes, but they can run 2 or 3 man routes, protect with 7 or 8 and no one is getting home.

Now to some degree, that always happens. Not many people beside Arians, Martz and Aaron Rodgers versus the Falcons puts the QB in charge of making the QB avoid an unblocked pass rusher.

Problem is they are not getting home enough to stop drives. When they do get them in unfavorable situations, they give up a lot of long 3rd down plays and penalties. A cleaner game would go a long way to help.

Dix has regressed a little (probably normal with more responsibility) and Burnett probably isn't 100% yet.

then that means our d lineman are not getting their jobs done

The Guion/Raji 4-2 nickel is not getting much pressure. Guion is not having the impact he did last year in pass rush.
