During his pre-draft and post draft interviews, he kept stating he wants to be the mayor of LA someday.

Yes, that's the player I immediately thought of. Jeremy Thompson comes to mind as well.

See the 6:00 minute point of this press conference....and MM's commentary on Jonathan Franklin over the next minute to the 7:00 min. point.

McCarthy: Franklin is a class act

Green Bay Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy met with reporters at Lambeau Field following Thursday's final minicamp practice.

    Note :

There's more here in regards to the nine week program.

Franklin News Hit the Packers Hard
Fortunately, it does seem like Franklin will be successful in other pursuits.
"To see him work so hard to actually make his dream come true and make it to the NFL, man, it's tough to see it end this way, because I knew how hard he worked," Jones said. "He's a special guy. He was a special guy at UCLA, and not only on the field but off the field. He was very involved off the field. One thing I do know: he has a calling outside of football to lift people and bring people's spirits up. Hopefully he can pursue his dream to become the mayor of L.A."
Since 2000, the Packers have had at least nine players suffer significant neck injuries. Of that group -- safety Gary Berry, receiver Terrence Murphy, offensive lineman Tony Palmer, defensive end/outside linebacker Jeremy Thompson, safety Nick Collins, safety Sean Richardson, Finley, Jolly and Franklin -- only Richardson has returned to play.
    8 of 9 since 2005. 5 of 8 since 2011, and 3 of 5 in the last year

You gotta feel bad for Franklin and all these guys, along with everyone who has worked and will work hard to realize their dreams only to have them thwarted due to injuries or circumstances out of their control, regardless of whether they're a Packer or even a football player.

^^^^ I see Guiness posted that in another thread. Day late dollar short - just like Darren Sharper...(sans assaults)

I'm impressed with the way that TT and MM handled themselves in terms of releasing this former packer RB.

    ie:

Losing a strong character guy, as Green Bay Packer players generally are (to what was once such a freak injury that's now becoming well known to the Green Bay Packers misfortunes) is rough. TT drafted this man and MM was his HC and both had high hopes for Johnathan Franklin.

" The Packers waived Franklin with a “failed physical” designation Friday. Franklin suffered a neck injury in a November game vs. Minnesota, an injury that will keep him off the field in 2014 and perhaps for good, the running back indicated last week."
