Some postive movement on the C-dub front

Williams used to joke with the other Dlineman that he was going to "break the bank". He was more than happy to break of talks early in the season.

Now, after he had to play a few games where he wasn't able to just come in for 60% of the snaps and go all out at the QB with Kamp and KGB there drawing double teams, I think he realizes that he's not a superstar worthy of "breaking the bank"


Anyway, here is what C-dub said in the greenbay press gazette,

“It’s starting to sink in now to know there’s a chance I might not be back with the team,” Williams said. “The defensive line, we’ve got such a good group, and we’re all good friends. To know that there might be a separation, that’s tough.

“But I’m not just going to take any deal. I want to be treated fair.”




"FAIR". This is the first time Cdub has used that word. Usually when players start talking about fair something gets done shortly after. That is my observation anyway. If the guy gets 20 million over 5 years, he has to be happy. Maybe he could get a few more but damn, that's enough for just about anyone to live on for the rest of their lives. I hope he stays around. If Harrell takes a jump as big or bigger than Jollys, Jolly takes another step forward and Pickett is Pickett, I do think that group can be unstoppable with Williams as the pass rush specialist.

They can not do anything in the near future.

Firstly the have not much cap room left for this season, secondly the period for redoing deals ended some months ago.

We are one of the healthier teams cap wise; we'll reportedly go into next year with 25,000,000 + so there is plenty of room to give him a deal if we choose.

Also they can come to terms now but not sign until later.

JH, I think you're reading this exactly opposite of what the guy means. This is code for "yeah, I'm a faithful and loyal guy and I love my team, but the second somebody waves a huge contract under my nose [that's what he means by "fair"] I'm outta here."

I agree - I think he's as good as gone. And I'm ok with that. No team can keep everybody, and I think we can absorb his loss better than any of our other key people. That cap space should be saved for guys we'd really hate to lose.

Jolly versus Williams, forget price, who would you keep?

Until midseason, I would have answered Williams, but Jolly made a jump I didn't expect.

I think Williams has a more valuable skill set. But as we all know, price is always an issue.

I would take Jolly in a heart beat over Williams. I think Williams (if he's around) will be our 4th best DT next year.
