Giants weakest Super Bowl team?

Usually the "honor" of the weakest team to play in the Super Bowl is given to the '79 LA Rams. They had a 9-7 record and a young QB and got blown up 31-19 by the Super Steelers.

But this years Giants team might be in the bottom 3 of teams with weak regular seasons to make the SB. The Giants did have a 10-6 record, one game better than the Rams had leading into the '80 SB. But one statistic jumps out at you when looking at this years' Giant squad. NY only outscored their opponents by 22 points.

Any wild card team is suspect when it comes to making the SB, but the Giants beat the odds by being the "Low card" team and still making it to Arizona.

The odds makers have also said that the odds against the 10 straight road victories by the Giants was 3000 - 1!

It is possible that the Giants could get "blowed" out, but I think they'll make it a game until late 3rd/early 4th quarter.

If the Giants had Peyton Manning instead of Eli Manning, nobody would be thinking in these terms. Its a matter of perception, because on the field, the Giants have been kicking fannies. Weren't the Packer something like 2 for 15 on third downs? Eli is playing really well, mindsets just haven't caught up.

I don't think the Giants should be considered a "weak" team because of the strong momentum they have shown at the end of the season through the playoffs. The team has finally began to jell.

Leading the momentum is the developing maturity and skill of QB Eli Manning. He has demonstrated leadership, control of the offense, and pinpoint passing.

I think the Giants will be competitive in the Super Bowl but the Patriots will win by 14+ points.

They won at Tampa, at Dallas, and at GB in sub-zero temps. In DAL and GB they handled the top two offenses in the NFC just enough and moved the ball effectively against two of the NFC's better defenses, all on the road during the playoffs. If that's weak, give me some of it.

If the Giants are a weak team, then GB must be too. The Pack were not suppose to finish 13-3 and play in the NFC Championship game. Bretsky's assumption is probably correct that the rest of the NFC is too.

ya, I think so. Most Super Bowls feature a team about at the Giants level. You rarely get two thumpers.

The second leading team in the NFL for outscoring their opponents was the Packers. We scored 144 more points than our opponents.

The league leader?

New England outscored their opponents by 315 points!

Man O Man then Im some glad we didn't slip in.

How embarassing would that be? Thanks to MM and Favre and a few more of our steller regular season performers that went hard to Valium for the BIG DAY there was no-ZERO absolutely no chance of that.

The only one really sceratching his head when the dust cleared was TT who ended up with a lousy first round draft pick and a bite in the arse to boot.
