Average players are a dime a dozen. Franks will be replaced. I think the odds are the player will be the same or better, younger and cheaper.

I would agree. I was about 99.9% certain Franks would not be on the final roster in week one next September.Originally posted by JustinHarrellAverage players are a dime a dozen. Franks will be replaced. I think the odds are the player will be the same or better, younger and cheaper.
However, cutting him before you have a capable replacement IMO shows that Thompson is committed to firing some bullets in FA this year.My signature has NUDITY in it...whatcha gonna do?

Agreed.

I'd say it's very unlikely CW gets traded. He's not of the caliber of Bailey or Abraham. I wouldn't trade CW. He's worth keeping while Jolly gets healthy and Harrell develops. The Pack need DL depth to make another push towards the SB.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersOnly two players that were tagged have been traded--Champ Bailey and John Abraham.

I think tagging Williams and cutting Franks shows that Ted Thompson values Williams and doesn't particularly value Franks.
I think it's evidence that Thompson is open minded to building a team in any number of ways that oppertunity may dictate rather than being pigeon holed into thinking he HAS to have so and so number of TE's or so and so number of DT's. I think moves like this and moves like keeping 6 DT's and only 2 QB's (after final roster cuts last year) show that Ted Thompson is willing to go outside the box a little to have the best players and he counts on his coaching staff to coach to the strengths rather than trying to force talent into a narrow box of what is supposed to be normal.
I've always said Thompson was in one word, "oppertunistic". I think this supports that because he kept a good player below market value and made some cap room by letting an below average player go even though only having one TE is outside the box for this time of year.Formerly known as JustinHarrell.

Pretty much the bottom line. At least, he didn't value Bubba at his price tag. If he were making the vet minimum, he'd probably still be on the team.Originally posted by JustinHarrellI think tagging Williams and cutting Franks shows that Ted Thompson values Williams and doesn't particularly value Franks."There's a lot of interest in the draft. It could show that TT truely does like having 99 as a part of a talented D line rotation and he'd hate to lose him without anything in return and it could also show that TT is worried about Jolly's injury and the play of Harrell. TT is the only one that knows.Pass Jessica's Law and keep the predators behind bars for 25 years minimum. Vote out liberal, SP judges. Enforce all immigrant laws!

Not sure if others have already read about this or not, but on packerchatters they write that Crumpler will meet with prospective suitors at the combine rather than fly all over the country.
"Crumpler listed at least seven teams that he might meet with: Green Bay, Buffalo, Detroit, Seattle, Carolina, Tampa Bay and Tennessee."
"I'm not looking for the red carpet treatment," he said. "I'm just looking for a team I can win on. I'm not bitter. It's not like I have to be in the NFC South so I can play the Falcons twice. I'm more concerned about the team that I'm going to play for."

Well out of those teams listed I'd say we have a pretty good shot to be that team he sees he can win with.. specially if Favre would just tell us he's back, call crumps up and tell em he'll be his keith jackson of the 2000's

Yeah, this list goes "yuck." I can't see that TT would prioritize signing another pass catching TE when he already has a fairly deep and talented stable of WRs. Signing Crumpler would just take snaps away from Jones and Robinson. Maybe pursue someone like Becht or Wilson as a cheaper version of Bubba for short yardage.Originally posted by HarveyWallbangersConsidering Clark and Smith are gone, it's not a great list. There are a few guys that can replace Bubba though.Originally posted by Iron Mike
Not many burners in the group though, so you're looking at a younger, less expensive version of Bubba if you go the FA route.1. Dallas Clark (U) Indianapolis
2. L.J. Smith (F) Philadelphia
3. Bo Scaife (R) Tennessee
4. Ben Utecht (R) Indianapolis
5. Eric Johnson (U) New Orleans
6. Jeremy Stevens (U) Tampa Bay
7. Kris Wilson (U) Kansas City
8. Michael Gaines (U) Buffalo
9. Billy Miller (U) New Orleans
10. Marcus Pollard (U) Seattle
11. Bryan Fletcher (R) Indianapolis
12. Ben Troupe, (U) Tennessee
13. Anthony Becht (U) Tampa Bay
14. John Gilmore, (U) Chicago
15. Ben Hartsock (U) Tennessee
