In addition to the Monday altercation (allegedly) that got receiver Chris Henry cuffed by the cops and then cut by the Bengals, there’s another incident that could land Henry and two guys still employed by the team in hot water.
According to WLWT-TV, Henry and running back Chris Perry and defensive tackle Domata Peko were at a club called “BANG” in Cincinnati, where they allegedly caused an early-morning ruckus last Sunday.
The club issued the following statement on Thursday: “On March 30 around 1 a.m., there were incidents involving members of the Cincinnati Bengals Football team at BANG Nightclub. Chris Henry, Chris Perry and Domata Peko were escorted out by police at the close of the club. Charges have not been filed, pending the settlement of punitive damages.”
A league source tells us that the players have refused to pay anything to “BANG,” and that charges will indeed be pursued.
That said, we’re troubled by the appearance that the folks at “BANG” apparently tried to squeeze some money out of Henry and company by holding over their heads the possibility of filing charges. It’s not much different than what those guys in Little Rock tried to pull several weeks ago with Darren McFadden. The far better approach for the victim of an alleged crime is to get the cops involved before trying to squeeze any money out of the alleged perps.
Perry and Peko are pretty good kids. Peko don't say a word, for instance. Big Samoan kid. This club could be putting on a money squeeze. Sounds like some other deals I've heard about where the bar people see $.
Regardless, Perry and Peko could be the next members of the team that wears tiger stripes to be sporting prison stripes in due time.
