  • Favre's Jersey to be Retired at Opener

    PER JSO...

The Green Bay Packers announced today they will retire Brett Favre's No. 4 at the team's season opener against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 8.

"The season-opening game is always an exciting event, and now we're very pleased to add the retirement of Brett's No. 4 to that evening," Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said in a release. "It will make for an electric atmosphere at Lambeau Field, as well as a great opportunity for our fans around the country to share in it while watching the game on the national broadcast.

I'm a little surprised they chose the night of Rodgers first start to hold a giant Favre celebration but a home Monday night game is ideal.

Talk about pressure on Aaron Rodgers.Of course he has the Pre-Season to change (possibly) a lot of things.

What difference does it make? It will be a distraction no matter what week it happens in. Favre earned it, the Packers and all of us fans owe him the highest honors we can give.

This is an absolute salp in the face to Aaron Rodgers. The guy has enough pressure and Murphy pulls this BS. Utterly disgusting.

They wanted to do this early to have a better chance at good weather. It makes sense to do it at a national prime-time game. If they had done it at the Dallas game (Gold package), the Green package season ticket holders would have been furious. This is the date that made the most sense.

Not sure why this is a slap in the face of Rodgers. Seems like an appropriate passing of the torch.

Its a slap in his face becuase its his FIRST NFL start. He has enough pressure as it is, what with being on national television, and being a divisional rivalry. Now he has Favre overshadowing him. Passing the torch is garbage. Rodgers deserves to have his day without Favre leeching off of it. I wish Murphy would have taken that into consideration before making such a disgusting decision. Harlan never would have done it.

I agree. The Packer/Viking rivalry is no big deal to them.
