  • ANOTHER SIGNING DURING FREE AGENCY

    Cole signs up:

Restricted free agent nose tackle Colin Cole signed his one-year, $1.417 million qualifying offer. The deadline for restricted free agents to sign contracts with other teams ends today.

Gosh Cole just doesn't seem like a guy who should be making about 1.5MIL

Good for him though; he's serviceable, I guess.
TERD Buckley over Troy Vincent, Robert Ferguson over Chris Chambers, Kevn King instead of TJ Watt, and now, RICH GANNON, over JIMMY JIMMY JIMMY LEONARD. Thank you FLOWER

I know what ya mean, B, but that's the rate for DT's. Mediocre guys are getting solid money.

Minor point, but Cole is a 3 technique guy. I've never seen him play nose tackle.

I agree with ya B, but at least this way we don't have to look for a DT on day 1 of the draft to take his place. He does see enough PT to warrant the offer though. We have plenty of spending yet to do to meet the cap minimum once Favre is off the books, so I don't have a problem with this. RFA tenders are only 1 year deals, so it won't hurt at all as far as future cap considerations. I'm on board with it.

We'll frontload some deals to get to the minimum. TT always find a way to use up the cap space while leaving 30MIL for the next year

$1.417 million is the tender amount in 2008 for any RFA if you want the third level compensation. The right of first refusal alone required a tender of $927,000 for 2008. The minimum salary for a player with three years experience is $520,000.

Funny that one of our Canadians got our Scotsman mad.

A real Scot would embrace his cheapness, not be insulted by being called that. I'm not even Scottish, and I embrace being called cheap.

Cole has been a pretty decent player when healthy. He's getting what, 1/4 what Corey Williams got? I'd say the gap between the two is a lot closer than that.

That is a very, very good point Tex.

And thank goodness. The Lions are near the top edge of the cap - and they suck.
