  • Allen Barbre -- Sporting News

Guard Allen Barbre is using the offseason to better learn the offense and continue building his athletic frame. There aren't too many better athletes the team has upfront than Barbre. He is strong, toned and can run. He is a very good fit for the zone blocking system, but he needs to get his head into the Packers' playbook and prove he understands all the double-team concepts.

Barbre has a legitimate chance to start because he is aggressive, athletic and competitive. His development will depend on how well he studies the offense and grasps the system during the valuable offseason workouts.

Maybe Barbre beats out Colledge for the starting guard position. Firmey maintain Colledge is better suited as a left tackle.

I said most of that in the pre-draft talks last year about Barbre. I liked him in what I read and saw of him. I've also read some great stuff on him from the current coaches.
"I would love to have a guy that always gets the key hit, a pitcher that always makes his best pitch and a manager that can always make the right decision. The problem is getting him to put down his beer and come out of the stands and do those things." - Danny Murraugh
