  • OTA MAY 21

    OTA's open to the public. 5/21 - 5/29 - 6/1

I have to be home on Wednesday anyhow because I'm having a TV delivered, so my plan is to go over and check out practice. I think at that time, reality might set in that Brett really isn't coming back.

So, I go over the Ray Nitschke field (behind the Don Hutson Center) and there are cars in the parking lot there, but nobody on the practice field. Looked around and found out that M3 was holding the practice indoors. This really ticked me off because very few of these are open to the public as it is and this was supposed to be one of them. Well, then as I was walking by a guy standing by the door asked if I wanted to come in. They let about 50 people inside the watch the practice.

I'm officially excited about football now. But, gosh...it was so weird not seeing #4 out there.

Here is a shot from inside the Don Hutson center. It was cool because I've never been inside there before. It's off limits to the public.

What they did today was really different than training camp. No pads, no contact, just running little drills with each position.

Driver was having fun with the crowd, as usual making people laugh. Noah Herron was standing 5 feet from me and was letting out the loudest belches.

I'm not a big draft guru at all, but I've seen many comments where people say Jordy Nelson is kinda slow. Personally, I thought he was lightening fast out there today. I'm really excited about this guy.

We could only stay inside for like 20-25 minutes, so I didn't get to see the whole practice.

        GREAT pictures! Thanks...

        McCarthy :

all the practices will be indoors. no grass practices until training camp.

Harrell could practice sooner rather than later, but they're being cautious because of only 13 lineman on the roster. He had minor back surgery based on something that was found after the season.

Talked with Will Blackmon about his string of injuries.

Aaron Rodgers has always had a good arm, but he is throwing with more velocity.

Coston is working at center. Barbre is most athletic of an athletic group.

Brohm is someone you don't need to repeat things twice with.

Allen Barbre opened practice as the starting left guard, although Daryn Colledge got some reps with the first team as well.

"Allen is in competition for one of the inside spots," McCarthy said. "We're continuing to play different combinations. You'll probably see Daryn Colledge at different positions. Junius Coston will play more center."

Aaron Rodgers’ public unveiling as the Green Bay Packers’ new starting quarterback took place in the Don Hutson Center on Wednesday, where the team held its first open session of organized team activities.
The practice was supposed to be held outdoors and be open to the public. Instead, even on a sunny though breezy day, practice was held inside — in which case, practice is generally closed to the public — but the team let fans inside along a portion of the east sideline.

As for Rodgers? Well, there’s not much that can be gleaned out of a workout with shorts. He didn’t throw any passes against the Packers’ starting defense, though he did riddle a defense made up of whatever offensive players weren’t running a play at the moment.

He did, however, show a live arm, especially compared to rookie seventh-round pick Matt Flynn.

              No. 1 defense

Speaking of the starting defense, most of the Packers’ No. 1 unit was there, though veteran cornerbacks Al Harris and Charles Woodson were absent from the voluntary workout. They were replaced by Tramon Williams and rookie Pat Lee.

“We have communication with both of them,” coach Mike McCarthy said after practice. “Where they are in the years, their work in the OTAs will be limited, but they’ll get their work in."

              No Grant, either

Also absent — at least during drills — was unsigned star running back Ryan Grant. While Grant was seen at the practice facility, Brandon Jackson, DeShawn Wynn, Vernand Morency and Noah Herron handled most of the reps at halfback.

“It’s obviously a business decision,” McCarthy said of Grant being limited to conditioning work.

              Harrell absent, too

As was reported Tuesday, defensive tackle Justin Harrell will not participate at these OTAs because of a back problem. After practice, McCarthy explained further by saying Harrell had minor back surgery.

“He’s fine. He’s doing well,” McCarthy said. “He can probably be back sooner rather than later. Anytime a young player misses time, it’s not to his benefit. But he’ll be fine. We’re probably being more cautious with” the roster limited to 80 players this year.

              Weather or not ...

McCarthy said all OTA sessions would be held inside to provide a “constant” environment. That’s bad news for railbirds, with limited space inside the Don Hutson

oh but I'm not done yet...lol.

Actually, I think you guys would be proud of me for the most part. The only ones who wouldn't be too proud are my fellow EC'ers!! But without Brett, what am I to do??

Thanks for the great pictures, GBR!

How did you manage to get in the Don Hutson Center? Did you flutter those beautiful eye lashes of yours?

It was also thoughtful of you to get a new TV for this fall. When all the PR posters crash your house for the 2008 PR Gathering, we will have a new TV to watch!

And he looks like he beefed up fairly significantly again this year. Look at those tree trunks.

oh hell, let's just go overboard with the pics while we're at it....... It's the off-season, what else is there to look at. I took tons of pics as I am not sure if I'll ever get the chance to be inside here again.
