Brohm's got a lot of skills. i I think we stole one by getting him with a 2. Flynn is not ready for primetime or anytime. We would do better with a vet, Brohm at 3 learning the ropes and Flynn on PS.

I agree with this 100%...and I expect this to happen by the end of camp. The fact that Thompson offered $1M to Culpepper basically is proof that Thompson believes the same thing.

I was thinking just the opposite. The $1M offer to Culpepper wasn't very much to entice him to come to Green Bay. As a 10 year vet, his minimum salary is close to $750,000. If they really felt they needed him they would have offered more.

I think TT is content to go with the rookies if he doen't find a guy he really wants as a backup. I don't think he feels it is necessary to have a veteran, but will look closely at those who become available later on.

Of course, Brohm's performance in TC might make it more of an urgent matter for TT!

Jerry Tagge was a #1 pick, 11th overall in the NFL by the Green Bay Packers, where in 3 years he had 3 TD's and 17 interceptions.

He won TWO national championships, 1970 and 1971, the MVP in 1971.

So what are you saying? Thompson was insulting Culpepper with the offer? The last time I checked, Culpepper is unemployed. He isn't making a dime, so $1M is a nice increase...and likely will be more than Culpepper will ultimately end up with this season IMO. If he does end up signing somewhere else, he'll probably get a greater chance to play...but may end up only earning the vet minimum.

No, I'm not suggesting it was an insult to Culpepper. On the other hand, in March or April it is extremely unlikely that a veteran QB who has started most of his career and thinks he should start again would be willing to sign a contract as low as that. He can get that type of contract later, if he must.

In short, there was really no chance of Culpepper signing that contract in April, Maybe in August or September he will, but not then.

You are correct that TT will not over pay. That's the point. If a veteran QB is worth only a million dollars to TT, its not a very high priority to him. If he really wanted a veteran QB, if he thought it was a real need, he would be willing to pay more. After all, the "average" pay at the present cap is almost $2 million per player, and the Packers have lots of available cap space. If he really thought he needed a veteran for this season, he would have been willing to offer a one year contract at a higher salary. He would attach a higher salary to that need.

In my opinion, the offer shows it was not a high priority for TT. You see it differently. No big deal.

I think he did. In the draft he moved to "QB Backup - Plan B". I think he is content with that for now, pending Brohm's performance in pads, Rodgers health after playing preseason, and the release of veteran QBs from other camps.

Tell that to Chris Weinke, Josh Heupel, Matt Mauck, Ken Dorsey, Tee Martin, Craig Krenzel, Chris Leak, and a host of other championship winning QBs that didn't do squat in the NFL. BTW, those guys are just some of the championship winning QBs from the last 10 years.

Thats pretty much like saying all Heismann winners are great QB's. You should check the list sometime.

I'll agree with that. I think Thompson's offer was more about letting Culpepper know there was interest...and that Green Bay probably would consider extending a similar offer later if Culpepper couldn't find anything else he liked. Like me, I'm sure Thompson is thinking there isn't much of a chance for Culpepper to earn more than $1M this year...so he figured there might be a small chance Puff N Stuff would take the deal.

I'm not saying it is a high priority...but I am saying that I think it is very unlikely that we will go into the first week of the season with 2 rookies on the roster behind Rodgers. At this point, there isn't anyone out there other than Culpepper who would be worth signing...which is why Thompson won't acquire a veteran #2 until some better options get cut loose.

That's the guy I'd like to see come in. He wants to be a #1 QB, but he's definitely the best guy out there that's available (when he's available).

Sign Simms for 1 or 2 years. When Brohm is truly ready to go, let Chris go. Arod, Simms and Brohm would give us the best depth at QB in the league.
