Round #1 selection #5 AJ Hawk. You will really be impressed. This fella does appear as 'an Urlacher Clone'. This is one solid football player and an easy selection at #5 for TT. AJ Hawk is all motor. Although video of Vernon Davis demonstrates his Superman qualities as well, TT did a fine job selecting Hawk , and we had real need at LBer.

Check out the video of ILB - Abdul Hodge and ask yourself if he wasn't a steal in the third round at #67 overall. This is a no nonsence throwback style of defensive football player - ALL business

See Rd #2 pick #15 and (#47 overall) - T/G Daryn Colledge. This man plays big and strong.

Rd #2 pick #20 (#52 overall) - WR Greg Jennings. This is one really fine football player as well. I can see the day when he lines up at WR with another of OUR picks on the other side of the line at WR in Will Blackmon and look out for the quick slants and circus running and difficult to cover after the catch routes.

You'll also find video of G/C - Jason Spitz and WR/KR - Cory Rodgers who seems to play small, but has the hip and shake moves of a decent punt returner.

There is also video available of QB Ingle Martin IV, OUR 5th Rd. pick at no. 148 overall.This fella doesn't look too bad and you'll also see him punting as well.

NFCNorth Draft Grades - 2006 NFL Draft

Chicago Bears

Grade: C

The Bears made a trade with the Bills and dropped out the first round. Chicago received Buffalo's No. 2 pick this year and a third-round choice.

With the Bills' pick, they selected small-college cornerback Danieal Manning of Abilene Christian. Manning is a fine athlete with the size, speed and instincts to eventually start as a pro. He has kickoff return skills that will allow him to fill a role early - in addition to the nickel corner.

They added all-purpose performer Devin Hester of Miami in the late second round. He is a terrific return specialist with big-play ability. He also can fill a number of roles - like slot receiver, third-down back or cornerback.

In the third round they added defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek of Oklahoma. He will play in their tackle rotation, especially with Tank Johnson injured currently. He was a good value here.

Jamar Williams of Arizona State can help as a nickel linebacker and protects them in case of free agent losses next year.

In the fifth round they chose defensive Mark Anderson of Alabama, one of the best values of the entire draft. He is a tough defender and is capable of winning a starting job in time. He can also provide pass rushing pressure as a situational player early.

With two sixth round picks, they chose fullback J.D. Runnels of Oklahoma and guard Tyler Reed of Penn St. Each addresses a need, and they have a fairly good chance of winning a roster spot.

Detroit Lions

Grade: B

The Lions selected in the top 10 again and chose LB Ernie Sims of Florida State with their top pick. He is an explosive defender who should start immediately. He gives them a fine run-and-chase linebacker with big-play ability.
In the second round they selected safety Daniel Bullocks of Nebraska, a well developed player with the ability to be an every-down defender early in his career. He was an excellent pick here and could start as a rookie.

Brian Calhoun of Wisconsin is a compact, tough back with natural running skills. He can also catch the ball out of the backfield. He could surprise and win the feature back role early in his career.

The Lions were surprised to find offensive tackle Jonathan Scott of Texas available in the fifth round and quickly chose the big lineman. He has a starting NFL grade and was an excellent value pick.

Cornerback Dee McCann of West Virginia figures to compete for a roster spot in a problem area.

Detroit chose guard Fred Matua of Southern Cal and linebacker Anthony Cannon of Tulane in the seventh round. Both address need areas and have make-it grades.

Green Bay Packers

Grade: A

The Packers held the fifth overall selection and chose linebacker A.J. Hawk of Ohio State. Hawk was one of the safest picks of the draft and began the Packers' best draft class in a decade.
Offensive tackle Daryn Colledge of Boise State is a rugged, mobile lineman with extensive experience. He figures to press for a starting guard spot this summer and was a fine addition.

They also added wideout Greg Jennings of Western Michigan in the second round. He is a sure-handed receiver who can win the slot role as a rookie and give the passing game a boost after several offseason changes.

With two third-round picks, they chose linebacker Abdul Hodge of Iowa and offensive lineman Jason Spitz of Louisville. Hodges is expected to challenge for a starting job immediately, relying on his fine instincts and tackling skills. Wideout Cory Rodgers of TCU ran poorly at the Combine and slipped in the Draft, but is an interesting prospect with definite upside.

Defensive back Will Blackmon of Boston College was a steal and has the talent to start on the corner within a short time.

With two fifth-round picks, they selected quarterback Ingle Martin of Furman and offensive lineman Tony Moll of Nevada. Martin is a very talented passer with the ability to shock scouts in time. He has the arm, athleticism and intangibles to start after learning the system.

Defensive tackle Johnny Jolly of Texas A&M is a fine addition. He is capable of being a contributor in their rotation as a pass rusher.

Safety Tyrone Culver of Fresno State is a defender with the range and tackling skills to make the roster.

Defensive end Dave Tollefson of Northwest Missouri is a small-college prospect with athleticism, but needs to improve his strength and technique to earn playing time.

Minnesota Vikings

Grade: C

The Vikings chose linebacker Chad Greenway of Iowa in the first round and expect him to challenge for a starting spot immediately. He is a solid defender with the ability to provide impact on this young defense.
With three second-round picks they chose cornerback Cedric Griffin of Texas, offensive lineman Ryan Cook of New Mexico and quarterback Tarvaris Jackson of Alabama State.

Griffin is a good fit for their coverage scheme and should see action as either a nickel corner or possible starter. Cook was a major reach here and was only a marginal top-100 prospect, though he carries a starting grade at any of the three interior positions.

Jackson was the biggest reach of the entire draft and was selected 100 picks earlier than where he was ranked. He figures to get the No. 3 job in camp and will have the opportunity to sit and learn the system.

Defensive end Ray Edwards of Purdue is a big, inconsistent athlete with a huge upside if the light goes on. He may be the biggest boom or bust prospect in this class.

Safety Greg Blue of Georgia is a big, hard-hitting defender who should excel on special teams. Both late picks have starting talent and could be major steals if they settle into the right positions in this defense.

I'll be the first to admit that I posted a good deal of personal feeling of negativity towords Ted Thompson.

After studying this draft's results as carefully as I could, and reading and absorbing ton's of info, I must say, I am very pleased with TT's acquisitions for the Packers.

As in all drafts, only time will tell, but at the outset this was indeed IMO a fine draft for TT. Credit is due where credit is deserved in my books.

I love AJ Hawk and Abdul Hodge as picks. I am almost as high on what I see with the video and reports on WR/KR Greg Jennings ( I'd hope he gets stronger and can break tackles) and CB/WR/KR Will Blackmon has moves very similiar to Reggie Bush. Maybe not the foot speed of acceleration that Bush possess's as a rarity, but moves that amaze me.

Blackmon is a very fine athlete and he's my Donald Driver of this draft class.

Maybe we reached a bit on Colledge and Spitz but that is compensated by the fact we had huge need on OUR OL.

We have good sleeper picks in Tyrone Culver and Johnny Jolly by all reports, and QB Ingle Martin Has a real shot to be OUR #3 QB. He has a decent arm,can run the ball and versatility as a back-up punter.

I could never complain after the great day TT had on saturday with 5 picks in the top 75. That was smooth, and we filled at two huge needs in LBer and OL with two quality picks in both positions, and a solid WR in Greg Jennings and he's looking REAL good.

Great job Ted Thompson, and all of those who worked so hard to build the Packer future.

YOU ALL deserve full prop's.

I don't know how ANYONE could give the Bears a passing grade in this year's draft. They traded down to take a project, got no one to help an anemic offense, and didn't get one impact player. The Bears had one of the five worst drafts in the league this year IMO.

Yes. the Bears are right on track to do what is their history of the past two decades.Have a really solid season, followed up with a real drop off.

They are not having a great off season with the latest problems surrounding key players disappointed with their contracts ( RB Thomas Jones and WLB Lance Briggs). It doesn't appear to have offset their plans though, as all the talk in Chicago is what kind of great season will RB Cedric Benson have.

It's looking really bad for Thomas Jones to continue as 'a Bear'.
