Not to start another thread, but apparently Mortensen just reported on ESPN that Favre is nixing the trade to the Jets. A friend of mine here at work just came over to my desk saying he heard it on TV.

So I think the answer is that they didn't think Favre was serious about playing, and that he would stay retired if they didn't bring him back. This is where the lack of communication comes in.
