Ex-49ers standout cornerback Plummer to retire
    By Len Pasquarelli, ESPN.com

Plagued by injuries that limited him to just nine appearances the past two seasons, and garnering only scant interest in the unrestricted free agent market, former San Francisco 49ers standout cornerback Ahmed Plummer has decided to retire from the NFL at age 30.
"There's a lot of interest in the draft. It's great. But quite frankly, most of the people that are commenting on it don't know anything about what they are talking about."--Ted Thompson

That is one of the FA's that we talked about as a potential Packer back in Feb. . . .I believe Harvey.

He only dressed for a total of 9 games in the last two seasons, with 46 tackles ( 32 unassisted ),Zero sacks and picks and 10 pass's defenced.

this guys just trying to save face, he wants to be able to say, he got out at the top of his game

the reality is, he thinks he should be paid a ton of money to sign with someone, and nobodies shown interest in him. either he was going to be done in the nfl anyways, or he would have been playing for the vet minimum this year

Do you know anything about this guy? Getting out on top of his game? More like getting out while still being able to walk!

2 years ago he was readily recognized as one of the top up and coming cornerbacks in the NFL! Injuries have killed a promising career! He's still rehabbing his ankle today from the injury last year. He's just not healthy enough and frankly, he doesn't need the money so why push to come back?

He was very very good. It's a shame but what would you do? He got 11 million guaranteed off his last deal. If you're hurting and you're set for life then why push it? He had a serious neck injury 2 seasons ago followed by a serious ankle injury last year. I think he's just had enough. When healthy, he can play with the best of them.
Life is a puzzle. Every day you get up and pick up the pieces from the day before.

            thats just it IMO

if he signs with someone for next to nothing it will be proof to the world that he isn't the player he was

if i'm not mistaken, his agents have been pushing him pretty hard and looking for one of those blockbuster deals. if he retires right now in his mind he can say he was one of the best and he decided to leave. if he signs with someone for next to nothing it shows him he's on the wrong side of the hill. its a big blow to the ego meter

but like you said, maybe he's decided he has enough money from the last deal, and it isn't worth it to him to bust his ass and play through pain for the minimum when he doesn't really have to
